docholiday
Well gone and done it again, out lamping end of last week and she got stuck again, field was rape and soft but no problem until we came through some tracts made by a tractor. Problem was that the ruts had pushed the track up in the middle and the diff grounded out so we wernt going anywhere, phoned the farmer (9.30pm) he was baby sitting but told us to phone his farm hand who was working to 10 ish, anyway he didnt answer so we waited at his cottage till 11.00pm but turns out he had gone on the ****, so at midnight called it a bad job and went home, came out in seconds the next day with a tractor on the other end... By the way the blood on the side is where my dear shooting buddy was putting the rabbits through the window into a box (saves banging of doors being opened and closed) he has taken to whacking them against the bumper if still twitching spraying blood and brains all over the place......then leaves me to clean it up :o by the way the old bus is up for sale as I am going to bight the bullet and order a new one I will learn one day doc

docholiday
Love to see my farmers face if i rang him and said i was stuck in his rape field ? why dont you have a good relationship with your farmer, mine is very grateful for all the work we put in and is only to glad to help with any problems. No damage to any of his crop as you can see we are driving around the margins. if you aint getting stuck occaisionally you probably are not doing enough.. guess thats why we get a lot of land to shot :o :o cheers doc

As for having loads of land to shoot on , got plenty thanks
docholiday
be interested to know how you would carry out his request to shoot the rabbits on his field then, not sure why you are scarred of driving around the outside of the field(the margins) there is nothing growing there and on our farm thats how he drives around and how he drove me around when showing me the property. seems a strange thing to say really, each to their own love and peace doc
trxnav
if those margins are left as conservation headlands mate and he gets checked on by defra he could loose his grant but if he is happy for you to do it then why not some of my permissions i can some dont mind the quad on there some dont allow any of it so have to walk to shoot i am offering the service so whatever it takes to do it i would do it. Some of the farmers dont mind me drivin down the tramlines each to their own.

Frenchieboy
Come on Doc, who wants to buy a landy that has a lifetime habbit of getting stuck??? lol
al4x
I have to say we use tramlines to get about but never when it is wet so I can see magmans point and yours Doc, generally mine is happy and usually drives my truck down them himself when its dry. One thing if for sure the sprayer operator will hate you for the remainder of the year if you've left decent ruts as he'll be bumping over them a fair few times Sure something lighter than a landy wouldn't be a good idea

One thing if for sure the sprayer operator will hate you for the remainder of the year if you've left decent ruts as he'll be bumping over them a fair few times Sure something lighter than a landy wouldn't be a good idea we only got caught out because the tractor had been using this route and created a high point between the wheels and we bottomed out on the dif, we only went down a couple of inches so little damage done as it was ok in front and behind easy to pull out. took a couple of seconds, hadnt been around this part of the field since the big freeze so caught out, but as mentioned if you are out there enough it will happen, we are really cautious as my mate only has a car which will not pull anything anyware and it is a real ballache to organise him driving me home and pick up next day etc as we live 45 mins apart and 45 mins from this farm, so involves a lot of driving etc. I have been stuck 4 times in the last three years, twice with me driving my landy and twice with a mate driving his landy helping with the rabbits on the Isle of whight. So could say 1. I am useless ( my feeling) 2. I am a jinx 3. we are out 3 x a week and it happens even to the carefull ones. anyway no damage done to any crops in all cases and no complaints from farmers just seem happy that we are out there doing something to help them, they keep ringing to ask us to come back, and arounf here there are plenty of others offering their services. maybee I need a jimmy or a subaru  but it will be a new Landy soon doc
pavman
it happens...... wet boggy marsh is my downfall... you can be going along all nice and happy then splosh up to the flat underside of teh truck with wheels just spinning around silly question doc but why did you not use the winch?
al4x
hasn't the landy got a centre diff? if the front wheels were in contact you ought to have been able to get out. Personally I've been stuck once in 15 years when I drove accross a tramline filled with water and it was 2 feet deep I may be more conservative or just careful, but I guess I do know the ground very well so tend to know where the wet spots are. Obviously you have now learned going through deep tramlines is a bad idea

We only had a tree at 45deg to our left and the winch wouldnt bring us over the ridge also this had the effect of digging the rear wheels down enough to bottom the rear dif as well, if we could have winched straight ahead or behind would have been ok, did try my mates car but just winched him towards the landy If i had had a ground anchor or even a spade would have been ok, but **** law states that I had taken the spade out of the landy to dig the garden and hadnt put it back, lesson learnt. doc

docholiday
All you need is a ground anchor All the gear and no idea, eh?! Ho Ho Ho mr smarty pants,, with a ground anchor would have only been able to pull out forwards which would still mean having to come back over problem area, or driving through the crops so it wouldnt really have sorted the problem. had to come out backwards. so i guess its you with no idea Edited May 8, 2010 by docholiday
