Popped out with GaryB and his young lady last night after his exploits in Kimpton blasting foxes got another customer via facebook. We turned up at the house to be directed to what is one of the nicer places (or was) to live if you're a fox. The holes were in the middle of a clear felled and replanted area, deer and rabbit fencing all round with pop holes for badgers to get in which of course the foxes used as well. Lots of wildlife about and very quiet, sadly these had been taking a look at some ducks nearby so had to go. On the initial reccy about 19:15 it looked lovely but hard to shoot 8ft fencing all round and the slope entirely wrong to have anywhere decent to sit. GB and i went for a wander round the boundary and were wandering round when the vixen was spotted, resting with the rifle through the deerfence GB took the shot and straight down result. Picked her up and put her near one of the holes and moved my truck near to the gateway which was the only sensible place to be but only 35 yards from the hole, stood in the back to get a view over the newly planted trees and waited, and waited, and waited Beth started to freeze so sat in the truck with a flatulent GWP to keep her warm didn't seem to complain which either meant she was really cold or was used to the smell :hmm:

Just as light was fading one popped up followed by another, but not from the hole we were expecting so trying to aim through the wire Gary took it with the nice to hear thump and one cub down. Shortly after we moved the truck to get a decent look at the hole and a short wait and one came out to sniff the other and that was down. By then it was getting too dark so swapped to the lamp and wasn't long before the last was in the bag. At this point we couldn't remember whether the guy had said 3 or 4 cubs so sat getting colder and colder for a bit longer till we gave up at that point Beth let us know he'd only seen 3  So all up a decent night out and a fair bit of luck getting first the vixen and then mopping up all the cubs. Was a lovely place to sit muntjac a plenty and also badgers about as close as you ever see them.

Nice write up Alex...

Picking up the Vicky whilst my rifle was still in the slip was a stroke of luck indeed!

It was very tricky to get a steady rest on that deer fence, the slightest movement was amplified ten fold due to the slackness in the wire....

Well done chaps

I'm a little dissapointed not to see Beth in the pic

almost curled up on the back seat with the dog keeping her warm, 10 out of 10 to her though didn't moan at all. Had i taken my girlfriend she would have been moaning about the cold about 10 minutes after we got there
