Waste of time? yes if you give up after 2 days.

you have not even scratched the surface mate, me and my shooting buddy have been knocking on doors for the last 18 months and resulted in 2 permissions both of which we cannot shoot on at the moment, one because of the crops and the other because of a spate of poaching the farmer does not want anyone shooting for the time being.

We still go out looking, so dont give up and dont get down hearted.

Ian.

Are you just hitting every farm with the same story?

Hunt around until you find a field with a thousand pigeons on it, then find the farmhouse.

"I've noticed your field is blue with pigeons and it can't be doing your crop any good. Do you need someone to cut the numbers down?"

As all above, keep watching fields leave contact details or a bit more long winded is go beating on local shoots once you've got the trust of keeper and the other beaters invites and permission will come.

As a farmer, we would be grateful at certain times of the year to let someone on to shoot vermin and pests but are always wary of who just knocks on your door as worry they are checking out what's available to steal, good luck!!

calm down chaps i mean 2 days this week not overall iv coverd everything local now. i did have a small piece of land but have just lost it because every tom **** and harry was going on there without permission so the farmer put up gates and stoped everybody.

Didn't he give you a key for the gate?

If 'every Tom, **** and Harry' were all going there without permission and you were also kicked off I think you've been given a bit of bad luck there mate... I'd go back to the landowner and ask. What have you got to lose?!

i beged and pleaded to him but he wouldnt budge just said that i had everybody else to thank for losing the land

HIS LOSS !!! (the farmer)

No wonder he has every tom **** or harry on his ground, i have loads of farms, golf courses, no problem with poachers or scallywags on my permissions, as i am out and about at night lamping at least 5 nights a week, so all would be sneaky so and so,s, keep away, even have a new fishery (trout) newly opened, the owner gives me £20 a week to pop in and out flashing my lamp, nowt to shoot on there though, keeps the poachers away, have got that many keys for places, i forget what gates there for !!!

you need to gain the trust of the Landowner 1st, as the farmer who replied to your post says , you might only be interested in looking around to see whats up for stealing....

Get insurance have your license, tell them that you will 1st inform local police that you are shooting on there, give him a card with your details IE : phone number name and addresss.

Might put his mind at ease, also point out that you don't just get an SGC or FAC just because you ask for it, NUTTERS or criminals don't usually have access to guns.

KEEP TRYING YOU WILL FIND SOMEWHERE...as the saying goes

if at 1st you don't succeed try and try again...GOOD LUCK. :good:

I can sympathise with the dificulties with gaining permission. Being in the Forces, and being moved around more often than the general public it is something that crops up more ofetn than I would like.

I have just been moved to Oxfordshire and have been going through the whole thing again. I have staretd by doing an internet search for local farms (45+) and in the frist inasance phoning them (it's harvest time, they are a bit busy for house calls at the mo). Most were polite, and for those that weren't, I had to be. This has yealded 1 positive responce (will make appointment to meet the farmerafter harvest), and a lot of answering machine messages left. I'm going to leave it till mid Aug and start knocking on doors.

There seems to be no quick way to do this and perserverience will pay off eventualy. I have also cade contact with local butchers that deal in game and hope that that may also bare fruit via the people that supply them at the moment.

Any one still looking, keep trying, keep polite, and try different tactics.

Good luck.

P.S. Anyone in the Wallingford area of Oxfordshire that knows of vermin shooting, or wants help with theirs PLEASE PM me?

I accept we can never get a whole picture from a few lines of thread but..........

.... problems crop up for everyone, but I have never heard that putting up a gate had stopped anyone if they wanted a shoot!

And if you had done a good job of vermin control (on this small piece of land) there would be little or no reason for anyone else bothering to shoot the site and the farmer would not have wanted to let you go!:oops:
