M ROBSON
It's definately worth looking at something in 3.5" just in case you want to use a heavier load at some point. Cheers, Mark.
mickmep
beretta extrema would be a good choice. as previous post 3.5" chambered. the mk1 can be had for a resonable price on guntrader.
mpk
Benelli supernova 3.5'' . This will fire any load from 2 3/4 up . Very solid guns and reasonably priced. You get them camo or synthetic and you can pick them up with 5 year warranty brand new for around £550-600 . Ill post a pic of mine in a sec. mudpatten
Each to his own, but I found the now relatively inexpensive and undeniably reliable Beretta Xtrema mk 1 to be a big, heavy and unwieldy lump of a gun. The Xtrema 2 is a much better choice but is of course relatively expensive as is the Benelli SBE2 which would be my first choice. Having the option of a 3.5" chamber gives more versatility of non toxic shot material and means you can use the large, effective and reasonably priced steel loads. I know you asked for suggestions regarding an auto. but have you considered a Benelli SuperNova pump action. You can`t get better value for money and relative build quality and all you have to do is learn to pump it. Something that takes most people with average co-ordination about ten minutes to master. Were you thinking of a Remington 1100 for any particular reason? Although they were the first successful gas operated semi the design of the Remington 1100 is now a bit dated and the build quality of later models is not as good as the early ones. MPK - You beat me to it mate! Edited July 9, 2010 by mudpatten

But as muddpatten says you cant beat them. And if all else fails its solid enough that you can always through it at them. , Totally off topic and not meaning to hijack the thread but i just had to tell a policeman off for leaning on my car Edited July 9, 2010 by mpk

MPK - You beat me to it mate! No i havnt considered a pump action, i was only considering a Remmington as you can pick them up quite cheaply, i like the look of the Benelli Semi Autos, someone i know has one and even with big loads in it there is hardly any noticeable recoil, something i think is quite important when playing with 3.5" loads, trouble is the Benelli Semis are too much for what i want to pay which could be for just for one season. I guess the main thing is reliability, especially when Fowling so i suppose i wouldnt go wrong with a Beretta but again it comes at price, i know you get what you pay for, just trying to find a happy medium. henry d
Berretta Xtrema 2 will fire 28gm 65mm carts right up to the heaviest 3.5" loads. I upgraded from a Remmi 11-87, which was a great gun to the Xtrema as the loads for the foreshore really need to be 3.5", the 2-2/4 and 3" loads didn`t do as well as I expected. I can`t wait to try it at driven fox, 2 1/4 oz of buffered copperplated No.2`s
jay851
+1 for the benelli supernova. i have just bought one new in camo for wildfowling and it is a very nice gun. been out this afternoon with it at the clay ground for the first time and had one of my best rounds. if you dont mind a pump you will be very happy with it. jay. wildfowler.250
Xtrema 1 is poor ,(heavy, unwieldly ect) as previously stated! The mk2 is a much better gun and would happily recommend one but they are pricey. Also a big fan of the old Remington 1100- 2 3/4 chamber though! Why not get a cheap £50 gun that suits you? Doesn't matter so much if it gets salt water/mud on it and if you really enjoy the wildfowling,(which you will ) sell it after one year and buy the beneli/beretta then. Just my 2p's worth! ATB Thanks for the replys guys, yes i will get a "cheapy" to start with i think, better to save up and and a decent one later one, i will definately have a look at those Benelli pump guns though. Hopefully i will like it, if i do i might stop all the messing about and go straight for the punt gun - anybody got a boat......................! mudpatten
As MPK said, at around the £550 mark brand new and with a warranty the SuperNova represents great value for money. And if you look in the bottom left hand corner of his photo`s you`ll see that MPK, who can`t even afford shoes, knows good value when he see`s it. If you do lean towards a pump why not try a mossberg 835 ultimag reasonably weighted 3.5 chamber 6 shot and multi choked they are also back bord for better recoil. The only nigle is they will jam with 65mil cases.

Punt Gun
Whats the concensus on a Browning Maxmus. I am really confused, I wanted the A400, then an Extrema 2, now I am told the Maxmus is a good option. Out of all these models what do I go for. I have an O/U that does most things, and want the Semi for wildfowling, but it would be nice to take it for pigeons if I fancied it. Is the xtrema 2 very heavy, that is my only concern as I know it has a very good reputation. The Maxmus and A400 are light, do they handle the biggest loads? One of these should get you started http://www.shootingtimes.co.uk/guns/121720...gun_review.html http://www.shootingtimes.co.uk/guns/111861...ort_Magnum.html http://gunmart.net/gun_review/baikal_mp153_semi-auto/

Extrema 2 is not at all heavy,(the extrema 1 is chunky and not nice). Think if you got 26 inch barrels it would be a sweet pigeon/hide/snap shot gun. Tigger, how did you find the Lincoln 10? I heard they are bad for rusting,(although I would have thought cleaning the gun would prevent that ).

I kept getting rust spots on various areas even cleaning it after every trip tried oiling it but did not stop it but being down the marsh 6-7 days a week does not help went for synthetic after that and never regretted it.
