fluke2
I would probably have a word with the horse owner,we were shooting about three fields across from some last year and spooked one that decided to jump a fence and leg it down a dual carriageway, the guys wife who owned the horses had been reporting people for years for shooting beside them and doesnt speak to the farmer we shot for, he said shoot, she said not, the police backed her up and and took our names etc we havent been back since, didnt want to get involved with the argument between them. Highlander
Always err on the side of caution. Some horses can be very nervy. Go talk to the owner of the horses and see what they have to say. Check that they cannot stop you shooting where you want to be but diplomacy rules OK. You never know, the horse owner may have some more land for you to shoot, it worked for me once and we were talking seriously valuable racehorses! My horses have no problem when i shoot rabbits in their fields, but i know my horses but i would not shoot to close to them. Different horse will act differently try asking the owners. Hairofthedog
Horses soon become adjusted to there surroundings and noises. There will though always be the exception and sadly it is usually the owners who have a phobia about shot gun use near to their animals. Horse ownership is growing fast, many small farms in arable areas are scooped up by the wealthy and the first thing they do is get a horse or two for their little darlings and noisey spooky shotgunners are not welcome on adjoining land at any price. Get yourself a 20g hushpower pump, one of these can be better than diplomacy.

hawkeye
I have set a hide up on a hedge with horses in the field behind they gallop about for the first few shots the just stand behind you watching and it doesn't seem to bother them.. andy_s
thanks for the replies. well i went out for a couple of hours yesterday, a bit steady, only got a dozen woodies but the horses didn't seem to be too bothered. they just went down the other end of their field which is about 400mtr away so i think i'll be giving it another bash there some time.
