VicW
Back in 1954 when I got my GCE 'O' level results it was a simple pass or fail. If you got enough you could stay on and do 'A' levels with a view to going to university. Then very few went to university, now it seems to be the only route to follow. I did quite well in my 'O' levels, gaining five, but opted to leave school and start work. Vic.

libs
Belive me, GCSEs are just a ticket to A levels, once your in a 6th form or college there not worth the paper they are printed on. The step up in work load, effort, difficulty and dedication in combination with the drastic reduction in support and extra help will hit you like a steam train full of Americans when you start. 'Hit the gound running' is a soppy phrase but really does apply here. Well done for getting the grades you did, but coming from someone who has just left 6th form and is moving on to university, if you coasted the last two years, pull your finger out and keep it out or you will be in my position, going to you second choice uni by the skin of your teeth, or worse. Don't think its impossible, loads of people smash 4 A* A levels every year, but you have to work seriously hard to get close to that, which may mean knocking the parties and pints on the head a bit, and not shooting three rounds of skeet or lamping the day/night before exams.
