My sisters birthday coming up, she has always gone on about wanting to going to a zoo or safari etc to see all the lions, zebras polar bears whatever else there is..i cant think of what to get her so i am just going to take her to 1

my question is which is the best 1 in britain??

Preferably one that has smaller animals aswell as bigger things, oh and it has to have meerkats, she has the full series of meerkat manor and endless teddys etc

preferably not too expensive to get in

and it must be big enough for a long FULL day out, with plenty of different animals and creatures!

i have been thinking about that 1 on TV think its called longleet or something (about to google it now!)

cheers guys

went to longleat last week, it was brilliant, my little boy enjoyed it, we took about 3 hours to drive threw the safari park stopping looking at animals and feeding the deer. No monkey tho as they have a virus and kept away from public access for now. The animals and attractions at the main house are great too, plenty to see and handle

well worth the visit.

Longleat is your best bet, on the same note avoid Port Lympne and Howletts at ALL costs.

I don't know what problem you have had with Howletts or Port Lympne, but they are probably two off the best zoos in the country, especially for gorillas and tigers.

Port Lympne's overnight safari experience has won countless awards and we really enjoyed it.

We have found port lympne to be more and more run down everytime we go there, they never seem to be improving it just spending time playing catchup due to the poor maintainance cycle over the years, also i hate the fact to see certain animals you have to take the safari which in my opinion is wrong and puts those people who can`t afford it at a disadvantage, also the last time we went to port lympne some spotty chav looking idiot driving around in a battered 4 x 4 with 2 lads in the back was tearing around the park at over 10mph nearly hit me and my daughter who i was giving a piggy back, when i complained i was told they would look into it but there wasn`t much that could be done as i had no proof, also it appears that these vehicles they use around the park have no MOT or tax and in a state that they shouldn`t be used.

Howletts is just boring, monkeys, monkeys and monkeys the enclosures are poorly planned and the whole place is put to shame by places like drusillas and chester.

Take a packed lunch as the foods pooh and pricey

Great zoo with pop up tunnels in the meerkats :good: bat cave is a must

Shame i live within 5 mile or i would visit more often

:good:

With Magman on this - we always take our own food and drink. My daughter (7 years old) thinks the butterflies are the best

Make that 3 - but since both the wife and daughter are members we tend to go en famie for several half days over the year and the teas, although expensive, are about all we buy.

Seconded on the butterfly house, we usually spend about 45 minutes in there, Daughter (29) and myself in competition as to who can get the best close up!! Cheetahs are good too - come right to the glass in the viewing shelter and peer in :good:

would agree, chester zoo is fantastic and have the longest snake in the uk at the moment (although im sure there are some in private collections that could challenge it).

paignton zoo is also brilliant and probably my favourite but a mammoth drive for you.
