activeviii Posted September 13, 2010 Report Share Posted September 13, 2010 I met up with Mr Freke last wednesday's. Absolute diamond guy. knows his stuff with the dogs, is very easy going and above all else he is a guy that likes to help. Im going over this wednesday as well just to get the cocker back to where he should be with game and also help, if need be, to dog some of the birds back as well. I was a little worried about meeting the guys as you do hear about how hard some of the beat captains are and how the keepers can be stressed but this shoot seams different to other i have been on. it's all laid back, very friendly and welcoming. Mr freke also, even though he's a paying gun, he does the beating as well and doesn't shoot. If people re in the area and do want to have a Saturday out in very nice surroundings, with easy beating then please shout as soon as you can as i cant see places being left on this one once the word gets out. every other Saturday, i cant remember what date the first one is but guess i'll find out soon, plus there's a couple mid week over the xmas brake. thanks again for Mr Freke for allowing to on the shoot with a young dog. see you soon Phil. I just advise of sites which have helped me find beating or picking up but I am no longer a member of NOBS as I have all I need and can get anymore I need for free and as a pensioner have limited funds. Some people are disatisfied with NOBS thatb is common knowledge. I do know that the shoot at Newnham got several beaters etc straight from the PuBS Forum in no time at all. Failing to strike a balance between NOBS and other organisations would no doubt agitate the Moderators on this Forum so I offer a balanced view. I'm not going to be rude as thats not me, but, i see where al4x is coming from on this one as ferretmanabu asked for more details about the beating on the newnham shoot, not details on where to get more beating. the polite thing would have been to PM him and not hyjack a post with an advert. still! no harm done just a bit thoughtless i guess. activeviii Posted September 29, 2010 Report Share Posted September 29, 2010 the dog training help was on Thursday but now on Sundays. I missed the main part of the training back in the summer, so im told, but now its more to d with getting the sent up the nose of the dog. Mine hasn't had this much distraction before and only after a few short hours he his holding back nicely. easiest thing to do is give willow1 a shout over on the pubs site and he will give you all the info you need. he's an ex field trialer but very very down to earth. pm me if need be and i will pass on details but it will not be till Sunday when i see him next. hope that help All the best Phil Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
