Pigeons flocking up ?

I have been out and about for short sessions shooting over wheat stubbles and in the last week I have seen five separate flocks of birds 2-300 strong.

There are also a lot of 15-20 bird groups about.

Its a bit early for substantial flocks in this area, as they don't usually appear until we have a frost or three and although the nights are getting colder, its still quite mild generally.

Could be a busy Winter.

If you find the field they want to feed on they will certainly decoy.

It seems the big flocks are together at the beginning of the day (from the roost) and when disturbed they often break up and move off, but come back in smaller groups.

The flock then seems to get back together towards the end of the day as they return to the roost.

Last saturday we seen flock of pigeons easy 300 + they covered two fields of wheat stubble, never seen them like this so early on :good: ,tried every thing to get to come to the decoys where my mate was sitting,i drove the truck to the edge of the far field and fired some shots off, they split up only to reform later and this was how we shot them on the flight line back in,it did mean that i spent most of day driving round,we are going to have a go next weekend with three of us set up in a triangle pattern 1/2 mile apart covering these fields and the flight lines so we can keep them moving
