leeds chimp
Who can sign this part as I have been told it has to be someone of a professial statue..i.e lawyer, doctor etc but its says nothing on the form (Norfolk Constab) or can be it people that you have known a long time personally i.e a rugby club coach that has known me for the last 15 years or someone who works for the prison service?? Elby
On your FAC it can be anyone over 18 that you have known for 3 years or more (other than family) no qualifications needed but 2 referees. For a shotgun cert it needs to be a professional only one referee though. Edited September 29, 2010 by Elby

Katash
Know anybody with a SGC/FAC? .... By requirement a licensed shooter must be somebody of good character. My SGC was signed by a work colleague (engineer) who happens to be the chairman of a clay club and my FAC was signed also by him and by another engineer (not a shooter)
steve_b_wales
On renewal on my firearm certificate, I had my local vicar to sign, and also a mate who I shoot with, and who owns his own business. MY FEO (S.Wales Police) said that 'they' like to see at least one signature from a doctor/priest etc, but the second one can be anyone of good character. leeds chimp
I am applying for both FAC and SG at the same time....Was going to use an open FAC holder as one as been shooting with him loads, his old man who owns a pub aka publician and also use him for the SG application as that has to be a professial person...would this be ok? al4x
Herts actually sent me out a note with my renewal saying ignore the requirement to be a professional on the referees form and can be anyone who has known you 3 years or more with no distinction between FAC and SGC. Makes far more sense to have people who know you well

Makes far more sense to have people who know you well On the Norfolk one it does not state anything about professional ...just known you for 2 years or more.... I got a school teacher friend i've known for 11 years to be one and other was someone i've known & worked with for 7 years.Last one also doubled up as counter signatory on SGC renewal too and both applications went through fine. Its a bit unrealistic for them to think everyone knows a priest and be a reference-unless you're a choir boy... Vince Green
It has become more difficult for many people to find any professional who knows you personally who is willing to sign. The police got really difficult about it a while back and there were complaints that they were being obstructive. So the terms have been relaxed.
