Fox or Badger - Your opinions please?

I went for a walk along the quarry this evening to get a few bunnies for the fox traps. It was a beautiful evening and 2 shots from the Hummer saw me with the 2 rabbits I wanted to re-bait the traps with. On the way back towards the car I came across the tracks in the first 2 photos but I could not decide if they were Fox or Badger. They were freshly made and quite close to a well used badger set but I have never known the badgers to come up this close to the quarry, on the other hand they are quite close to where I often see (And shoot) foxes that might be making their way to the nieghbouring farms poultry house. Sorry I did not think of placing a coin or something next to them to help show their size, but they are about the size of regular fox tracks and there are no dogs that go around that area!

It was such a beautiful evening I could not resist photographing the colourful sun set too!

Wolf

WOLF??????? I bloody well hope not! I don't have wolf on my ticket for any of my FAC Rifles - I might get away with using my QB78 (.177) - unless it's a werewolf! :hmm::no::hmm:

I thought it was most likely fox but they looked as if they were that fresh that I was quite surprised that I hadn't seen Charlie about this evening, what threw me was the size of a few of the claw marks (which don't shot that well in the photos). Maybe I should have tried calling but that would have been a waste as I only had my Hummer and not the good old .222! Not to worry, i can always have a go at Charlie another evening or night!

The depth of the prints give it away, if it was Brock you'd have seen belly marks.

That also proves they aint mine

Thanks for your opinions guys. Now that it has been mentioned I should have thought about the depth of the prints compared to the length of a badgers legs - It all fits together and makes sense now! Oh well I gusee it is almost certainly a fox so it looks like another job got the .222! :hmm:

Definitely no chance whatsoever of it being an Otter!:no::no:

As for a dog, :hmm: that is a possibility but (Because I know the area fairly well) I would have to say that it is extremely unlikely.

Thinking carefully about it my money is on Fox :sly::yes: I will find out soon (I hope) because I am up around that area regularly as it is fairly close to the farm that has recently got somewhere around 5,000 birds in it's new poultry house which I "keep an eye on"!

If I am right I would expect to be adding another "Ginger Rogue" to my tally fairly soon as the weather looks right for lamping for the next few nights in this area!:good::yes::D:yes:
