adam f
I'm waiting for my FAC to arrive, and just wondering if I'll need to change my cabinet? Currently Ive got a brattonsound 3 gun shot gun safe - will I be able to squeeze a rifle and scope in with my 12g?
Oxon88
depends how many shotguns you have in there i guess. There is no problem storing shotguns and rifles together.

adam f
Ive only got the one 12g. What I meant was that doesn anyone have a similar cabinet (designed for shotties) and manges to squeeze a rifle in? Or do I need to buy a new bigger cabinet? What I meant was that doesn anyone have a similar cabinet (designed for shotties) and manges to squeeze a rifle in? Or do I need to buy a new bigger cabinet? Yes: I managed for years(upgraded now) to fit rifle & shotgun into Brattonsound 3 shotgun cabinet, got to get the knack of twisting rifle to best angle to fit scope in but no bother.Might be difficult if you have a love of large scopes. Most I managed to squash in was 2 shotguns & Cz rimmy but had to take great care to avoid scratching etc.
Scully
When I first bought a gun cabinet I made the mistake of buying a shotgun cabinet, not knowing that you could also but deeper ones specifically designed for a scoped rifle.Dealer didn't tell me any different either!Like previous posts have said,it means you.ve got to twist your rifle to make it fit.Watch you don't scratch your wood. Devon Fox
I used to squash 2 shotguns & 2 rifles in a 3 gun cabinet, not ideal as you can mark your gun - will be fine for a temp job, now I have a 5 gun cabinet (extra deep) with 5 guns in it and it's still a tight fit with scopes. If you do buy a new one - make it a big un! I am going to buy a 10 gun and keep the exsisting cabinet as well!!
Norrie
Ive only got the one 12g. What I meant was that doesn anyone have a similar cabinet (designed for shotties) and manges to squeeze a rifle in? Or do I need to buy a new bigger cabinet? Hi Adam, I started out with one G&C 5 gun cabinet, and soon filled that up with 4 Shottys and 3 rifles...,it was tight, but they all fitted in... so,on hearing that the FEO isnt too impressed with too many guns in one cabinet, I got another B/Sound 3 gun cabinet as well , now the 4 shotguns I have are in it...and the 3 scoped rifles are in the 5 gun cabinet, .No storing problems now... They are bolted side by side on the same wall... I contacted my FEO office, and told them about it, and asked did they want to inspect the second cabinet... but they said no worries, it was all ok.. ST3V3
I had a .22 rimmy a .222 and a shotgun in a 3 gun cabinet a little tight but if they went in in the right order they fitted fine but depending on which 1 you wanted you may have had to take them all out. 14 gun cabinet now installed makes an ideal tv stand

njc110381
As the others have said you can get them in. With just one rifle and one shotgun it should be ok, but then on saying that I upgraded in the end because I was fed up with all the messing around that comes with it! I've got a 9 gun safe now - much easier! I'd put it down to money I guess. If money is a bit tight then you'll get by but if you've plenty to spare and will be buying really decent guns then go for the bigger safe. I've dinged loads of guns trying to cram them into the safe and it doesn't really matter if they're working tools. If however they're expensive and tidy then it would be a great shame to trash them for the sake of £150 and a couple of hours of DIY! tom_0787
There's a lot in the saying buy the biggest you can. I started off with a 3 gun and now have a 10 gun cabinet. A £50 eBay bargain! For now it will do, just keep an eye on the auction site for a bigger one.
Frenchieboy
I have a Bratton Sound 3 shotgun cabinet and can fit 2 Scoped Rifles in it comfortably (My CZ 452 Varmint 17HMR complete with SAK Moderator and RWS 4-16X50 AOE Scope and my Bruno Fox .222 with a Nikko Gameking 4-16X50 Scope on it) I can also fit a SxS 12 bore in as well if I "Top and Tail" them but it is very tight! Dekers
It's easy in hindsight but buy as big as you can fit/afford. Many make the mistake of getting too small, this leads to all sorts of issues getting guns in and out very carefully to avoid any damage, and of course makes life a real problem the more you get! Consider storing top to tail! I keep all my guns in the cabinet in their slips, obviously totally dry and clean, this makes getting in and out of cabinets easy with no risk of damage, but is does mean you cannot get your full quota of guns in a cabinet, hence needing even bigger. ...and for scoped rifles, always get the deep/extra deep if you can, it makes life so much better! ...remember, Vault type cabinets may have their uses, (not quite sure what) but the door is also very thick and considerably reduces usable internal space! If you decide on a new cabinet have a look at these, give me a shout if you fancy any and I'll see what I can do for you! http://www.djsproducts.com/
