killer_pigeon
it makes sense that the prison criminals get to vote because the politicians are worse criminals themselves. these modern day politicians are scamming expenses, having 3 other homes on tax payers expenses, lurking in bushes in a famous London parks late at night soliciting themselves or have 3 other undeclared jobs on the side that the tax man is unaware of, cash for questions etc etc breaking the law all the while they are awake. rant over i feel better now

artschool
why shouldnt they vote?
Imperfection
why shouldnt they vote? Cos they've been found guilty of a crime so serious that a custodial sentence was neccesary and therefore no longer part of society-until their release. bruno22rf
I think that if you cant obey the rules of society then you have no right to dictate how it is shaped-this country is being butt raped by Brussels and the apathetic upper middle class twits (A) that quote equality from their armchairs. artschool
Cos they've been found guilty of a crime so serious that a custodial sentence was neccesary and therefore no longer part of society-until their release. well its not quite as simple as that is it? there are plenty of people in jail for tv licence evasion etc. my view would be slighly different. i think that you should earn the right to vote and its not just prisoners that shouldnt be allowed to vote. but if we allow drug users and dole bludgers to vote then why not prisoners? and why not ban serious offenders(rapists, gbh etc) from voting for life? utectok
Mmmm I'm guessing the prison population would not vote for the Tories hence the change now !! It seems to me there are enough other things for the politicians to worry about than changing who votes?
ME
The only vote consideration should be a public one which decides whether serious offenders go to the gallows or get the injection.

Dr W
well its not quite as simple as that is it? there are plenty of people in jail for tv licence evasion etc. very few I would imagine since our prisons are overcrowded my view would be slighly different. i think that you should earn the right to vote and its not just prisoners that shouldnt be allowed to vote. possibly so but how would set the criteria for when you could vote? but if we allow drug users and dole bludgers to vote then why not prisoners? Because they haven't been charged with a crime at this stage unlike the prisoner and why not ban serious offenders(rapists, gbh etc) from voting for life? Because the jail term is the punishment after serving their time they are free to go about their business (wrongly or rightly) Personally think we'd be a lot better off out of the Human Rights Act
Spaniel
I think the hard bit from yesterday mornings interview on TV was the bloke committed of man slaughter, compaining for his human rights to vote........now it was said that he battered someone to death with a baseball bat, maybe its just me, but i dont think he deserves any human rights at all for the rest of his life. But if they did not get the right to vote then these people locked up for murder etc were entitled to compensation ££££££ unbelievable
