proTOM1
Had the day free so went out on reccon found good numbers on a few farms on the rape and was heading back to 1 of them when i spotted loads on some late drilling problem was not my land . I soon found the farm and and the farmer and asked about shooting the drilling. He bit my arm off and told me he has been hoping someone would ask for permission and that no one had shot the land for over 10 years ( how did i miss this farm ) anyway got a key for a few gates and had a drive about but now it was raining so after an hour decided to have a bash at the edge of the drilling in a small wood . No decoys just me the gun and a few shells . There was still a few about but time was not on my side and after 2 hours it was dead so packed in with 15 woodies and 2 ferals

Had the same with another farm i picked up this year , he asked me to call round again in 2 weeks which i did ,he said he has told loads of people to come back in 2 weeks and none had bothered to call back . yates
Nice one Tom. Great to see that getting out and asking the farmer directly does work. I can't believe that with so little pigeon shooting available that people didn't follow up their leads with the farmer. As you say that's their loss and your gain. yickdaz
good result let me say its realy hard to get perms round me at the moment don;t get me wrong we have a fair bit of land to go at but lost and losing more and more to farmers retiring 2 in last 4 years and one of them turned into a horse riding school;syndicates buying the rights etc.i went round to 2 farms tues morning only 2 to 3 miles away.were i had noticed rape when driving past so waited to see if any pigeons were on it then i would ask.but when i did was told farmer and his son shoots them;the other farm i ask at said syndicate has the shooting rights. I am loathe to try to get extra land at the moment because I don't have the time to cover it well, and I would hate to let people down. Out of interest, where is your new farm? Just out side lincoln to the south i now cover all round my house and some more Its ok for me as my job helps me keep the farmers happy and when i have no clients my mates help me out plus i shoot the odd pigeon now and then . Not much land round me that i dont shoot over now but has taken me time to get it and the farmers all know me and know i do a good job thats the main thing Edited November 26, 2010 by proTOM1
