Buying New Hide Poles?

I have been using horse fence posts for my hide for years without problem. However, last month I invested in some 'proper' poles from ****************. They are currently advertised as having 'solid point' and a kick plate so I thought they would be up to the job.

They arrived with a top clip broken. I didn't bother returning it as I use spring clamps and this could be overcome. Tried them out a few times and then today the first pole collapsed when trying to drive it into the frozen ground. It transpired that the pole is not a 'solid point' but hollow and quite flimsy. Now I know that the ground is quite hard, but no harder than in summer when it is baked solid. So I decided to flag this up to the seller as I need the poles all year, not just when the ground is soft:

Hi,

Just to to let you know that the poles you are selling on eBay are not 'solid point' as described. I bought a set off you last month and have just ruined one trying to get it into hard ground. The poles are flimsy hollow alloy which kind of negates the need for a kick plate if you see what I mean?

Regards,

Clive

Well i disagree as i have used the same set now for 18 months

i import them and suppynearly every other seller here and no complaints

i will say that you would need to drill a bloody hole in the concrete hard

gound just now to put a pole in even i would not try to kick 1 into the

ground just now

jim

Ps solid point it is as it is a sharp point not hollow

but i suppose your ideas are different to 1000s of others

Jim,

I'm not asking for a refund. I could have done that when the poles arrived with a top clip broken. I'm just letting you know that they aren't solid point as advertised to avoid any future misunderstanding. I don't misuse my gear. This gave way quite easily. I will use a brolley spike to repair this one, but I'll now make as many people aware as I can given your attitude.

Clive

GO **** YOURSELF ******* EXPERT THE POINT IS SOLID NOT THE ******* POLE

TAKE A LOOK AT HOW MANY ARE SELLING THE SAME POLE

So there you go guys. Remember the name: *****************although it looks like many others are selling them too.

You say these posts are advertised as having solid points, no hide poles I have seen are solid all the way up, the "point" is the bottom bit that sticks in the ground.

The frozen ground is much harder than Summer hard ground and I have bent hide poles trying to force them in when the weather is like this.

It seems you were twice offered your money back and refused both times.

I am not sure what more the Supplier could have done.

Err. No.

The first post I made is the sum total of all communications we have had. He has not offered a refund and I have not requested one. It wasn't my intention to get my money back. I just wanted to alert him to he fact that he was misrepresenting the goods. Many eBay sellers do not actually use the items they sell.

I know the ground is hard at the moment. That is why I bought poles that were supposedly solid points. In summer clay soil is equally hard. These poles can't be used in hard ground. That makes them unfit for purpose in my book.

He has since replied:

Now just to let you know that i have emailed Pigeon Watch

and your comments will be passed onto my Lawyer in the morning

so we will now see the outcome

I await his lawyer's comments with eager anticipation. In turn I will refer the question of 'solid points' to the Trading Standards office nearest to Bonhill, West Dunbartonshire.

I think the OP needs to clarify. Surely he wsn't saying that he expected the whole pole to be solid? I read it as though he expected a "solid" insert at the end to create a point. In that case, with a kick plate securely attached above that you would expect to put all your weight on the tread plate without damaging anything.

We were advised that you refused two offers of a refund.

If this is not the case, I suggest you contact the Seller and ask for a refund.

I have got hide poles with loose kickplates and bent spikes, where I have tried to force them into ground that is too hard.

These hide poles were not cheapies and were bought from two different reputable Sellers.

I wouldn't demean the product or the Seller on the basis of my impatience.

Sometimes the customer has to take some responsibily.

What is termed 'solid points' is open to debate. Personally I don't regards a closed end of a tube a 'solid point'. There doesn't seem to be a use for a kick or tread plate on a flimsy alloy tube. Anyway, I'll let Trading Standards decide. I wasn't going to bother them with this, but given his attitude and false representations about offering refunds I feel that they should have a look at the guy. I just hope that his business is registered and all paperwork in order.

However, the reason for posting this on here is down to the replies I received when bringing the problem to **************** attention. If this is his reaction to an e-mail not asking for a refund or exchange then you can only imagine his response should anyone have a serious problem with him.

In the meantime looks like I'll be using the electric fence poles to put my hide up. They go in any ground.

Cranfield, the guy is not telling the truth. He has not offered any refund. The e-mails listed are the whole story. He is not to be trusted.

I have not asked for a refund and don't expect any. My whole point in contacting him was to make him aware that the poles are in no way solid. To avoid future complaints - that was all. You can see that I did not ask for moneyback or exchange and none was offered.

I have used solid spikes on electric fence posts in all sorts of ground - baked clay and ice without problems. These poles are not as described and unsuitable for hard ground.

Edit:- just for reference, the spikes on the rotary went into the ground yesterday.

Why not ask for a refund and then you can buy more electric fence poles. :)

Why not ask for a refund? With this guy's attitude? He's never going to give a refund in a million years. It's all male bovine excreta.

I wish I'd not bothered buying them now. Can't use them in winter or summer when the clay is baked hard  The bag is useful though.

The fence posts I've got are actually perfectly adequate. Impulse buying gone wrong again

This will sort the broken pole: Brolley Spike

Sounds like you bought a set of the cheapo Chinese poles which are coming into the country.

Now although I sell Pigeon gear.... these poles really are utter POO. We had 4 sets on trial and I bust every single pole within 2-3 insertions into the soil. And this was back in Autumn when the ground wasnt that hard. They chinese manufacturer quoted us £10 for a set of 4. Do the maths. You get what you pay for!!! Utter carp.

Why has the seller's name been blocked out?

There are many, many similar tales of woe about another dealer and their name is not blocked out. Surely there is a responsibility to PW members to warn them of a disreputable seller?

And, yes Will, given his response that he supplies all the other dealers with poles I think he must import them from China.
