mpk
Hi all , My old man who has shot for a long time since he was a child wants another licence. He has not had a licence for a few years now and is a diabetic. 1: is he still aloud a licence as he is diabetic 2: can he store a gun in my cabinet at my address as at present he shares a house with a work mate and would prefer to keep them at mine. This has arisen due to a father-son I can beat you situation, hope you all can help so I can give my father a good wooping ( it will also be nice to spend some time in a hide together as we never did when I was a boy) Cheers all
webber
Provided your dads diabetes is under control, he won't have a problem. Your dad will need a cabinet to be granted an SGC, but he can buy a gun and give it to you. It goes on your SGC and is kept in your cabinet. You can then loan your dad a gun for up to 72 hours. Your dad may encounter a problem if the person he shares the house with has an unaceptable police record. I'm diabetic, and the above is how young webber and I work it, excepting that he borrows my gun. webber Edited January 9, 2011 by webber
Imperfection
I cant possibly see see how diabtees could jeapordise a SGC application. Its not a mental health issue and is purely just down to his blood sugar levels.

SHOOTEMUP
1: Check with the FEO 2: He can keep it in your cabinet no worries, he doesnt need one of his own either 3: He will beat you You got some more ground then As long as its only a shotgun there is no reason why not. If he gets his own sec 2 shotgun it will go on your licence as well as a "Shared" gun, by that I mean a shotgun! if it was an FAC item you would not be allowed access to it unless you held a licence. If your Dad wanted to go away with his gun the loaning idea would obviously break the law. Edited January 9, 2011 by SHOOTEMUP
HDAV
He won't need a cabinet as long as he explains to FEO gun is to be kept with you ( normally it works the other way round) I know of several people in this situation SGC but no cabinet or SGC and no gun should not be an issue as long as he fulfils the other criteria Edited January 9, 2011 by HDAV
bruno22rf
I was diabetic (type one) for over 30 years-was never an issue with SGC or FAC-mine was also difficult to control.I suffered an attack whilst out shooting alone once and managed to make it to the side of a road where i passed out-i was picked up by the police (somebody saw me there and reported a possible suicide)and taken to hospital and simply collected my gun from the police several days later. PhilR
I can't see a problem with being diabetic, plenty of shooters I know suffer from it and hasn't affected them either obtaining or renewing an SGC. Probably best if no mention of it is made when applying as it seems from reading posts on here that some FEOs are making the rules up as they go along. Regarding keeping his shotgun at your house within your cabinet. This is ostensibly what my wife and I do. All the guns we own are both our certificates so that we can legally access them. Pushkin
I'm a Type 2 diabetic and it hasn't caused me any problems renewing my licence over the years I would declare it on the application - that way they cannot come back later if found out and accuse him of trying to be decietful - which would go against him more. Good luck to your dad Pushkin B)
daz2202
I am a type 1 diabetic, have sgc and fac, just let them know and have the health checks and no probs at all. I also have a msa racing licence and hgv - now being diabetic i have to jump through hoops every year to keep them.
mpk
Thanks very much for all your comments. Pigeon watch is always a helpful place to pose a question and it's good to hear that he should be able to get a ticket and also use my cabinet. @ Chrispti he probably will
