RWS Subsonic HP .22 any good?

Recommended Posts

I bought a load of these last time as Sportsman had no Eley Subs.

Initially they grouped appallingly through my CZ when I tried to re-zero for the new ammo.

As I had nothing else, I persevered on a second session on targets.

After 100 rounds, in total, they suddenly began to group well, and on the last outing I was hitting a 10p size target black almost every time at 60 yards.

They are very waxy, certainly, but I am confident with them now and they seem just as accurate as the Eley subs were. I won't buy them again if I can help it though - will go back to Eleys.

These were the most accurate in my CZ when I tried them alongside Eley's and Winnie subs, however as already stated, they're very waxy, more so than the Winnie's. Also interesting to note, that the hollow point is nowhere near as big as the likes of Winnie's, therefore they don't expand as much on live quarry and as such I got a hell of a lot of straight through shots with the exit only being marginally larger than the entrance wound. This wasn't a huge issue as I found them so accurate I was confident of shot placement, but if you're after a very hard hitting bullet with good expansion, you may be disappointed. Personally I would buy them again, but possibly only if I couldn't get Eley's which I found very close to the RWS on accuracy and slightly harder hitting. Hardest hitting I tried were the Winnie's but unfortunately these grouped the worst through my CZ and I still have a full brick to use! :/
