Fisherman Mike
I have Toshiba satelite which wont power up If the battery was kaput and didnt hold a charge should it still run on AC power? I am pretty sure the unit has been dropped and the ac socket jack was damaged and needs re soldering. Th reason i ask is because I have a similar problem with another unit at work and need to know if its the battery or the ac socket which is at fault. Many thanks, Mike. Dunkield
If the battery was kaput and didnt hold a charge should it still run on AC power? Yes, you can take the battery out if you like. If the power socket is damaged the battery may just be flat as the notebook will have been running on battery without charging.
bruno22rf
Isnt there normally a small red or green light that comes on when AC power is plugged in?-if it turns out to be the input socket of the laptop thats u/s then you can get them for pennies on fleabay-getting them fitted however is another matter as they are one of the first components to be fitted to the laptop and one of the hardest to get to. Dorsey
On Toshiba laptops it's normally a complete strip of the unit - then desolder the AC plug and put in another one. I did find an example on the net where some guy has soldered some fly leads from the AC plug contacts to a seperate plug outside that kinda hangs off the back. Either way it's not a good thing. I have one with the same issue in my Laptop graveyard that i'll get around to fixing one day.
HDAV
There is a company in London I shipped mine to for repair ( different issue) I'll get their details tomorrow for you they do full main board repairs if required
paul1966
to pay for a repair will not be cheap, the part itself only cost's a couple of quid but you will be paying at least two hours labour on top, i have repaired one for a mate, its not difficult to do just fiddly. four-wheel-drive
I was given a Toshiba satelite a while ago it had a virus on it the guy who gave it to me did not have the recovery disk for it but the spec looked to be much the same as my Toshiba equium and it worked or so I thought it formatted the hard drive and recovered the programs it load windows but would not let you use it very frustrating so I tried to get a new recovery disk from Toshiba but was told that it was to old at just four years old a perfectly good computer I gave up and bind it.
