lurcherboy
Glowplugs not working as well as they should will give you poor/lumpy starting. About £50.00 all in. Topgunners, I was in the pub testing Guiness for quality control. And what was you doing in Shooting times this week, page 17, apparently you are a 'keeper!!!!! al4x
as said it is likely to be glow plugs it is possible its just one thats failed but change them all, The main sign is white / grey smoke on startup which is unburnt diesel this then clears and the engine stops being lumpy as soon as warm. If its blue smoke on startup it means oil is passing the rings if this clears nearly straight away just leave it its not serious and will carry on for ages like it. If the blue smoke carries on once the engine is warm and you get puffs of it on downchanges etc its the valve seals. Personally I'd say its down to the cold and glow plugs from what you are saying. You can try giving it two blasts with the glow plugs before starting in the morning and seeing if this helps. Otherwise I'd change the glow plugs and get it a bottle of one shot injector cleaner to help clean them.
Ozo
no-1 seems to have asked if the enigne has been touched? As in have u screwed the turbo or fuel pump up or is ther a tuning box fitted? When i had mine screwed up it looked like a train but it went like stink lol. Anyway if your pump is screwed that puts too much fuel threw the engine and when the engines cold it wont burn it all. lurcherboy
OOPS!!! Sorry mate, forget to ask/tell you about the cold start device on the injection pump. If you have the Lucas pump there is an adjustable cold start device. Its run from a bowden cable thats fitted between the cylinder head and the pump . The cable stretches and the cold start decreases. Ask your Mechanic to check the free play and spacing when the engine is cold and hot.
