chrispti
I would guarantee if the road royalty where to spend just 1 day driving a wagon, they would soon change their narrow minded opinions HGV/LGV drivers do drive cars too and we all get stuck behind slow overtaking lorries, we dont start fitting about it though its far easier for our cars to get back up to speed
pegleg31
i personally don't mind sitting behind them even though i think they're numpties when the go on an overtaking session.it's the way some drive (not all) by pushing you out the way when trying to overtake or tail gating you in heavy traffic even at highish speeds.having said that we need hgv drivers and the country would come to a stand still without them, plus trator drivers are worse :yp:
Snap Cap
If the fuel prices keep going up the roads are going to be empty anyway. As a white van man I'd like to point out that I don't belt about anymore, can't afford too. Deadline or no deadline my vans best fuel economy is at 55mph and thats what I stick to. If Mr Rep in his Audi drops out of warp behind me then he has two choices stay there or overtake.

Bazooka Joe
My 7.5t truck is governed at 56 mph,so you wont see it in any other lane except the inside one. I was heading south down the M6 last week to Preston following a Artic which was doing nearly 70mph...thought these were restricted ? jacksdad
That will be a de-restricted one...theres a lot about
The Duncan
Most of are lorries are left hand drive. Roundabouts are a nightmare and changing lanes . Though we do have signs on the back of the lorries saying that they are left hand drive .So other drivers are warned . xxxxxSuzy I found it hard too when I had a quick mission to the Alps a few weeks ago in my RHD Wagon - blind spot mirrors that my vehicle has are outstanding though. You still have to look to make them work though . Any commercial vehicle has a massive blind spot which the driver has to work with/around. It is definitely harder, than when driving a car. Bikes are ideal, of course! Duncan :yp:
Diceman
I do about 35k a year in a car. I see a fair number of selfish, stupid wagon drivers, and I see a fair number of selfish, stupid van drivers, and I see a fair number of selfish, stupid car drivers. It used to really wind me up but then I lost a mate in an accident and I grew up a bit. So what I do now is chill out, keep my eyes open, stay out of everybody's way and plan my journey times sensibly. I don't hang about, but I don't go mad either. Generally I arrive on time and relaxed, but if I'm late, well, I'm still alive so that's not really a problem. Peace out, brothers and sisters
The Duncan
A point on being late - once you are 5 minutes late (and its for business) stop and phone and say "I'm running late". Whether you are 5 or 15 minutes late, makes no odds. If you're late, you're late. Thrashing it like an a-hole won't suddenly make you on time ! I did an experiment years ago on a fairly quick bike. At the time my commute was 12 miles: a mix of country and A roads. I timed taking it easy and I timed it in 'balls-out thrashing' mode too. Time difference? about 90 seconds. It's worth it isn't it Did another experiment, driving from Norwich to MK. 1st time 60 mph cruising (car) - 2 hours 35 mins £20 in fuel 2nd time 75 mph cruising - 2 hours 29 minutes £30 in fuel. It's about a 140 mile trip (fuel was cheaper then too). Lesson? Driving/Riding fast doesn't really get you there much quicker unless its over a very large distance and there's not much traffic. But it does cost you lots more I haven't put the Jag in sports mode for days! Take it easy guys n gals! Duncan
Diceman
The Dunc - well said. I see you're a biker too, then - I tend to find that those that ride bikes calm down in cars - firstly you realise that a 'fast' car won't ever give you a buzz like even an average bike, secondly you learn that everyone else on the road is out to kill you and you develop a sixth sense to detect morons and stay out of their way. I reckon 1000 miles on a bike should be compulsory for car/van/lorry drivers, they might learn something. Thats not to say that there aren't selfish, stupid bike riders out there, but they tend to spend a lot of time in traction (if they are lucky)
jacksdad
I have worked as motorbike despatch rider, delivery driver, car courier, new car and van deliveries and 7.5t multi drop. At one time I owned a 900cc bike, a 3.0 sports car, Ren Master LWB van and drove a 7.5t for work  I've done the school run one day and then driven 900 miles the next. As far as I'm concerned, speaking with a fair bit of experience in my 31 years of riding and driving, its down to the individual, and not any one group! Good and bad in every category, simple
The Duncan
The Dunc - well said. I see you're a biker too, then ... Yup. I have this odd urge to join any group that has fun and is cast out from society - fast hairy-***** motorbikes, shooting things with rifles, shooting things with shotguns, encouraging/taking part in fights (in the dojo) Someone once asked Steve McQueen what he was rebelling against. His answer was "What have you got?" I think there's an element of that in most of us, some more than others.
