docholiday
Anybody else noticed that the pigeons are feeding later now, a month ago unless I was out shooting within an hour of sunrise nothing was seen and by midday it was all over, now it pays to be out in the afternoon. dougall
agree. Around here (w Sussex) all over drillings 7am til 8am then disappear until 1pm onward, especially heavy traffic 4-6pm.
shoughton
Interesting. I've been finding that there's activity from early though to about 11am. Then it slows until about 2pm then stops all together and doesn't recover. But then it must all depend upon what crops or drillings you're shooting over and also what else is around. It's also fair to say that every time I think I've characterised the pattern - it changes just as fast I did have today booked off - but cancelled it due to lots of rain early on. I am now out tomorrow - but will plan to get set up by about 9am, probably over the peas. Good luck, Steve

big simmo999
I went yesterday and set up for 8am - saw birds until 11ish then nothing from then until tea time!
pigeonblasterian
Went today and found it hard to find any pigeons flying.Eventually got set up at 11am after going round and looking for them. They would not decoy today for some reason and were few and far between.Ended up with five and my mate one. When i breasted them on getting home only a couple had anything in the crop and they looked like little green seeds of some kind. Cranfield
The change of feeding times seems to have as much to do with the change in their food choices, as the days becoming longer. In my area they feed at first light and are off the fields by 9am, then back again 1pm onwards. Most of their food intake now is slower to digest, allowing them to rest up or go courting through the late morning/early afternoon. We have had a couple of afternoons when there has almost been a feeding frenzy between 3pm and 6pm. This was over linseed and a favoured field of chitting peas. mrikirkby
I am going to have a go after work tom as i went saturday at about 9am and had nothing all day and went home about 4pm fed up ! Plenty of birds about going from woods/trees roosting during the day nearly ? Hopefully later in the day will produce some goods !
proTOM1
Like said at this time of the year with the day light being as long as it is ,they feed first light which is now 5.30am and stay feeding for a few hours before sitting up ,they may top up mid morning but have found after 2pm to be the best

The Duncan
Tonight I cracked a few bunnies and had a look at my hardest hit rape permission - very low still and barely a flower on them. I got to the field about 7 ish and there were plenty feeding on it. If I'd had my hide and deeks I reckon there'd have been some good sport, so I'll be back tomorrow eve at about 5.30/6pm to set up and see what I can harvest. Better than scaring them at unrealistic ranges as I did tonight I just get so excited! Learning the lesson though.
