wildfowler.250
I saw it. If he is shooting at crows 70 odd yards away I'd love to know what carts and choke he is using? I haven't even thought of practicing at targets that far away before!
dougall
CZ, he uses full and full for everything.Cartridges get a mention,he is using blackgold (gamebore his big sponsor). He also uses pigeon extreme which I think are 34g no 5 shot and he states on a calm day will take anything out to 80 yards ...gulp. I hate to criticise a massive legend but his gun safety in the hide is a bit iffy for a role model and whilst he demonstrates that he can shoot pigeons/crows dead at 80 yards means it is possible, but for mere mortals I dread the thought of youngsters/newbies watching him and thinking right lets pop at 80 yarders!!He must surely be the greatest shotgun shooter of all time, and I think this should be stated along with 'please don't try this at home'!! Nial
I hate to criticise a massive legend but his gun safety in the hide is a bit iffy for a role model He is also not wearing any ear protection. With the number of shots he fires a year I'd have thought this was essential. Nial

He is amazing. I've never patterned a shotgun at 80yds, but even with full choke it must be getting a bit gappy with No5. I might try it just out of curiosity ( patterning, not hunting ). I must admit, I also crimged when I saw the barrels pointing up past his face, but I didn't see them pointing near anyone else.

Thanks for that! I can never decide if full is a good idea apart from maybe for high pheasants/geese ect. I have something I can aspire too I suppose...maybe I'll work up to a mere 60 yards first

I have something I can aspire too I suppose...maybe I'll work up to a mere 60 yards first I wouldn't be confident of killing an 80yd crow on the ground, let alone in the air. I really need to do that pattern test, it might surprise me.

I really need to do that pattern test, it might surprise me. I was thinking about this after I posted. Even if I had a 42 gram load, full choke and a stationary crow I wouldn't have considered shooting at it
liamp79
He is a legend. Isn't there a video on here about him shooting teal clays at 100yds? We as a country really don't celebrate his contributions to sport at all though. He's won so much and not one of my non shooting friends knew who he was. They all know who Phil Taylor is though! fortune
I watched all of the video clips and I thought that overall that it was a total disgrace. Those hooray Henrys making a so called film about a load of nonsense!up on the isle of Mull. They obviously werent taught to handle a gun correctly. Still, They had an "EXPERT" overseeing everything. Pitty he dind't stripe the clods with the rifle butt. What happened to, A Father's Advice If a sportsman true youd be Listen carefully to me. . . Never, never let your gun Pointed be at anyone. That it may unloaded be Matters not the least to me. When a hedge or fence you cross Though of time it cause a loss From your gun the cartridge take For the greater safetys sake. If twixt you and neighbouring gun Bird shall fly or beast may run Let this maxim ere be thine Follow not across the line. Stops and beaters oft unseen Lurk behind some leafy screen. Calm and steady always be Never shoot where you cant see. You may kill or you may miss But at all times think this: All the pheasants ever bred Wont repay for one man dead. Keep your place and silent be; Game can hear, and game can see; Dont be greedy, better spared Is a pheasant, than one shared. And as for Digweed, you only see the showstopper shots. ( Billy bull poop baffles brain power). They dont show all the ones that fly off pricked. Ok he is a gifted shot but there are physical limitations to shot and patterns and Ive seen him game shooting and he has a tendency to shoot at birds that are a long way off. Some come down in spectacular fashion but when some fly off he shouts out that one was hit hard, you could hear the shot go through the feathers. I and a lot of people, see this as unnecessary and unsporting. Mere mortals dont say anything but a lot think it. It is this kind of arrogance why he never features on the sports personality of the year show. For someone that has won so many world titles and championships he may well not exist. I thought that the rabbit shooting on the rape was worth watching. Edited April 1, 2011 by fortune
