farmshooter
hello all, i have a bolt action .22lr that i no longer use, can i just sell it then inform the police, or do i have to send away my cert 1st?? also does it cost anything to sell a gun - i mean informing the police about it - does it count as a variation?? at the same time could i apply for new guns on my license? thanks FS
The Duncan
Sell it and enter the details on the buyers FAC as indicated on the certificate and let your local force FEO know - in Thames Valley you get a form you can fill in and send off to HQ and photocopy if you wish for future notifications. The purchaser also needs to let his police hq know of the transaction too. It isn't a variation. Just a record of who's got what. Devon Fox
1) yes assuming the other party holds the correct. License & you fill out the relevant sections on each others license. 2)no it costs nothing. Just notify them in writing asap 3)No it doesn't automatically count as a variation. You will have to apply for one for one variation, or apply again for a different caliber. 4) yes - you could apply for a variations, but adding extra guns will incur a fee, swapping your 22lr for another 22lr would be free. Dekers
All the responses have it really BUT...do not lose the slot whatever you do, apply for a 1 for 1, even if you just say you want another .22lr (even if you don't). SEND your FAC if you want a 1 for 1. EDIT.... And dare I say, think VERY carefully about getting rid of your .22lr, it is one of the most versatile tools on the market! activeviii
you can sell your rifle to anyone with and empty 22lr slot on their FAC. buyer and sell need to inform their firearms licencing department, mine is within 7days. you need to fill in the details on the buyers FAC, as well as the moderator if there is one. if you get stuck just copy what it says on yours but check the serial number. mine was wrong and never picked up until i sold one.opps once the deal is done you need to fill in an FAC application form again but this time you do not need to do the referee bit. put down what rifle AND moderator. you dont have to ask for another 22lr, you can ask for more or less anything if you show need for it. because your asking for a one for one change you should not be charged for it but do not lose the slot as you will have to pay next time round if you find you need something else. when i put in for a change i like to add a covering letter just to make it easier on the FLO. if its just to inform that i have sold or bought something then i just email them and ask for read receipt. oh one more thing. if you are changing calibre then dont for get ammo as well. Dekers
If you are going to apply for a 1 4 1 variation you have to purchase the rifle within 30 days , Dave Is this something your FEO made up over coffee or what? Not in my area! You will at times find a Temp cert is supplied to cover a period between Sale and purchase, ie, you get to buy the new one BEFORE the old is sold, for a short period, this will commonly last 30 days! Vermincinerator
Also, one for one does not have to be for the same calibre,i have done many over the years including a C/F mod to a 6mm Ian.

al4x
Its wrong simply because they just give you a new permission to aquire on your ticket when you send it in having sold one rifle and asking for the new one, those aren't date related
njc110381
My local force expect you to put in your variation after sale within a reasonable period. Once you have the slot though you don't have to fill it until renewal, at which point they may well question your need for something that you haven't bought for years! I think Dekers covered it very well earlier. I went through a spell of no .22lr, but once it's gone you will realise that no matter how little you use it, now and again it's essential! Whatever you do, even if you do sell it - don't let that slot go. Just ask for anything you think you can justify to fill the space until you think of something you need. Then you can either buy what you ask for or take a free one for one and change the slot to something else.
farmshooter
cheers guys, yer i already have another .22lr and my bolt action doesnt get used, so i could do a 1 for 1 vairation to get a .17hmr?? for no aditional charge? thanks FS
njc110381
That's pretty much it! If you empty a slot on your FAC you can refill it for free if you do it within a reasonable time. I usually send my FAC in with the notification of sale. It's only if you increase the number of entries that it will cost you £26. HMR is ace for bunnies. If you want to shoot a few Foxes etc too though then why not push your luck and try for a .223 for long range vermin? It's a perfect time to test the water and you could end up with a really smart new toy (oops, I mean tool!). EDIT... D'oh! You already have one! HMR it is then.
