KenG
Have you ever camped at a shooting ground when shooting away from home over a weekend? As I'm struggling to pay all the costs involved in shooting International qualifiers, Beretta suggested I do what he used to do, buy a tent and stay at the grounds to save on accommodation costs. In your experience, do most grounds allow this?
HDAV
Never seen a tent at a ground myself (except game fairs) but I am sure most will have a campsite locally if you know the dates of the shoots well in advance you can get some very cheap deals at Travel lodges, Etap hotels etc (under £30), or some late deals. Best contact the grounds directly and see what they say. Are you sponsored Ken? If your knocking on the door of internationals may have opportunity for some sponsorship? sitsinhedges
You'll have to bolt a gun cabinet to your tent
Barney86
The only ground I've been to that has hosted large events is Mid Wales, and camping was a regular sight while I shot there. The Kreighoff 500 in particular turned the place into a caravan park.
sg1
I suppose a camper van would be ideal!! You can mount a gun cabinet in it and if they won't let you camp/stay 'on site' then just park in layby outside atvb sg1
Mickthemiller
HI If you go onto the campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk or thecaravanclub.co.uk website you can look for camping ground close to wherever you want to go, these sites range from small sites with basic facilities at about £6 - £10 per night to top of the range sites at up to £20 plus per night, or just Google camping sites in the area you want to go to. You will need some basic kit like sleeping bags and something to sleep on. Lights, these can be run off the car battery, cooking facilities, you can pick up all of these things in the second hand adds.As time goes on you can add to your kit. Keep your gun with you at all times, sleep with it if you have to,keep it in a hard case, its not so obvious what your carrying then. When you get on site you will be surprised how friendly people are.We always go to the small sites with our caravan and have had some great times.I am sure you will get plenty of other advice regarding the gun but that is what I would do right or wrong. I hope this helps if you email me where you live, and where you are thinking of going to I will look up some small sites for you. Best of luck MicktheMiller
KenG
Thanks very much guys, especially Mickthemillar, some great advice there. I've already asked the ground where I'm shooting next weekend, and they said it was no problem so long as I had my own facilities As to the gun, it would be with me at night, kept closer than the Mrs usually is I knew that Mid Wales had no problem with campers, motorhomes, etc. staying on site. HDAV, I'm trying my best but my chances of making the team are slim, due to me not shooting enough at proper grounds. My nearest ground is a 170 mile round trip (next weekend will be double that). beretta
ken, if you dont try it once you will never know and could regret it later. cant see any grounds really refusing you to stop over the one night, bit of added security for them. Azzurri
As B says, give it a go Ken It's got to be worth it especially with the price of fuel and carts these days, and if the weather's good even better You could always go up market like I used to a few years ago and 'rough it' in the back of a Ford Escort Van Azzurri. Azzurri
With Bronwyn the sheep You'd need a Transit for that kind of thing Azzurri.

Chard
You'd need a Transit for that kind of thing Azzurri. Not so, too much space in a Transit. It's easier to keep them still in an Escort van (allegedly)
