wilam
Looking for recommendation for a scope to suit 22lr around £250 or less want the best range finding possible within range 20metre/yard to 120metre/yard good dawn/dusk ability and zoom Ok what can you suggest
Shropshire_Lad
Hi, any range finder will give you all you ask at this range. A lot of scopes will be fine too, one that will do all this well would be quite pricey me thinks. atvb Paul.
Alycidon
120m is really pushing a 22LR to far. Perhaps hyper velocity will allow it. I would go with a good quality 6x42, zero it at 50 or 60 yards and learn the drops. Buy a lazer rangefinder when funds allow. Fence posts are usually 6 yards apart, tramlines 20 meters, that sometimes helps. A
stubby
there really is no need to put such a scope on a rimmy, a simple 3-9 x 50 will do all thats needed, as others have stated, learn your distances or zero at 25yds, it'll still be spot on at 60yds, (drop off after that)
Colster
An MTC Mamba/Mamba Lite will do all you ask, graduated reticle, side parallax and under £250 new.
wilam
Cheers guys, good advice not keen on carrying a laser range finder around. The 120m was just an outside limit not thinking about shooting at that range. Ok lots to think about.....
bicykillgaz
something in the hawke map range would be perfect for accurate range estimating as the software you download free for them is excellent and they are reasonably priced, you'd probably get one of there high end scopes for that price mate with sidefocus, the map6 ret is good just a straight forward mil-dot ret but very accurate
Evil Elvis
There is no need for a side focus on a .22lr. they are fiddly and difficult to hold and twiddle at the same time, plus the range of the .22lr simply doesn't warrant it. Go for a decent quality hawke, have a look at the panorama series. i have a night eye on mine, never use the illuminated reticule ever, but its a very clear piece of glass, fairly cheap and is more than adequate for a .22lr.Plus the 50mm let in more light as it becomes dusk.At 60 yards i can put 5 bullets through the same hole with it too :good: :good:
Mark-70
Hawke Endurance 30IR 3-12 x 50 on my .22lr! Love it!! 30 mm tube great reticule & quality Finnish.

Take the difference between a 30yds and 50yds target thats very clear using the meathod, try the same at 100-120 the same variance and you will seriously struggle For £250 i should look for a second hand 40mm objective leupold and forget the range finding thing personally 3-9x40 being very adequate

dadioles
I do not understand your reasoning against a laser rangefinder. I use it all the time and find it indispensable. There is no more accurate way to quickly work out distances to various markers in the field, a particular tree or stone or other "landmark". Side focus is also really useful (you don't need long arms) and when you are shooting at objects from, say, 20 to 100 yards which is the typical range for .22LR Subs you can bring things nicely into focus. I am a slow shooter and take my time, rabbits do sit still. My experience of using the side focus for distance measuring is a bit variable and the scale tends not to be too accurate as it is affected by the eyesight adjustment of the eyepiece and really needs a higher magnification scope than you would want to use for .22 as without high magnification you do not get an adequately shallow depth of focus. I have scopes with illuminated reticules but do not switch it on and find it gimmicky, but it seemed a good idea at the time. My favourite reticle is Nikoplex, nice and fine. The .22LR shoots reasonably flat (within 3/4 inch) from about 16 yards to about 57 yards and it is only beyond that where the trajectory falls off quite rapidly so you really need to be able to quite accurately estimate distances within about + or - 5 yards, from 55 yards to your limit which is sensibly (max) 80 to 100 yards for rabbits. Get it wrong and 5 yards can mean almost an inch of drop, the difference between a hit and a miss or more likely a wounding. 12x magnification is more than enough, don't go higher.
