Hulse
hello whats the best scope mounts for a 308, im unsure if im going for a 25mm or 30mm tube thanks
Alycidon
Lots of good mounts around, look to be paying £60 to £100 for a set. Talk to your local RFD and get him to install them and the scope. Thats a job thats not quite as simple as it sounds. Do NOT buy swing off Apels, I did and never used the swing off facility. Standard Apels are fine but very expensive. No point in having an expensive rifle connected to an expensive scope with a poor mount system. Sportsmatch make good quality mounts in Leighton Buzzard. Billy.
I've learned the hard way in the past... Invest properly in your mounts, or you'll be setting yourself up for failure.
garyb
You can't beat Leupold rings and bases.
Loki
Hiya I would suggest you also consider the Burris Signature Rings. These are the equivalent of the Sako/Tikka Optilocs, so have the nylon inserts to hold the scope - which can only minimise the risk of scope tube damage/crimping. The Burris inserts also provide other benefits including centreing of reticle and maximising scope windage/elevation adjustments (think off-set shims) - the clip on their website explains better than I can explain simply/briefly. I've a set on a Winchester rifle, which does have 'attitude' but no movement so far.............so in my opinion more than fit for purpose. Dekers
what rifle are they going on, without that its a bit hard to recommend mounts That is the important question...some rifles are a pain to find mounts for!
Dekers
IF your rifle can take the like of Sportsmatch then consider them. There is just so much bull spoken about spending vast quantities of money on bases/rings. I agree/accept on a .308 you need some mounts that didn't come free with your Breakfast cereal, but there are plenty out there that work. My T3 Lite .223 has Optilock (around £100) My T3 Hunter .243 has Sportsmatch (around £24) My Rem 700 SPS .308 has Leupold (around £70) Prices at the time I bought them. They ALL work fine and if I could have got/new about Sportsmatch at the time they would be on them all! phaedra1106
I picked up 2 sets of Millet windage adjustable Angle-Loc rings off Ebay US for about £10 a set, got a set on my .308, after remembering to fully tightten them after adjusting them (silly mistake!) they have been rock solid. cooter
The first set I had on my .308 were Warne mounts, and they were a pain to set up. I did use Leopold rings and bases on my .308 and .223, and I couldn't fault them. When I started target shooting I fitted a 20moa rail and rings from Third Eye Tactical, to both my .223 and .308 and they are solid. I can also remove the target scope and fit the stalking scope on the .308 with no loss of zero. For normal work out to reasonable distances you won't go wrong with Leopold.
