LeicesterChris
Hi all, I've managed to secure permission on a local golf course which is riddled with furry invaders. Currently one evening's hunting will result in 7-10 rabbits (and there seem to be more everytime I go out!) This is far more rabbit than I can eat myself (the freezer is currently groaning at the seams) - does anyone know if I can sell the excess and who might like to buy them/how much a rabbit is worth?? I live in Thurmaston, Leicester. Thanks! Chris
mick miller
By rights you need a cert to be able to sell to shops and restaurants. However, not all establishments are that bothered about such things. Try ringing round local butcher's and country pubs. As for price, I know locally rabbits sell for £1.50 each with the jackets off, guts out, no head or feet, anal tract removed and £3 each jointed, trayed and wrapped. It may be a little less where you are. Bear in mind that most places will want a steady supply and often in quantity. steve_b_wales
Why not see if there is a Bird of Prey sanctuary nearby, or a dog rescue centre. I'm sure that either would be happy for the meat, especially the birds. I have one (Bird Sanctuary) near to where I live, and gave the proprietor 38 rabbits last summer. He was 'over the moon'! Dexterboyz
sounds like my situation! i tend to give them out to friends, family and other farmers who live near by as they dont often get time to go shooting rabbits, this often ends up with yet more permissions! if not you can always sell them, butchers always seem to be after rabbit meat round my area although i dont sell to them as they want them to meet a certain criteria ie body streched out for show purpose and will only accept head shots so i end up with about 5 that they will buy! hardly worth the effort if your only gettin £2 a rabbit! if ur FAC then what i would advise is gut them in the field and leave them somewhere a fox will find them, come back later and u can take some fox down, or if not then at least some cubs wont go hungry
clayface
Well believe it or not people who keep very large snakes (burmese pythons or reticulated pythons) pay between 3.50 and 6 quid for rabbits to feed their snakes. If you can offer bulk sales - may be 10 rabbits for 30quid or something I reckon people would be interested. The place to advertise is www.reptileforums.co.uk - they even have a for sale section dedicated to feeder products

pegasus bridge
you could sell them onto people who 'raw feed' their dogs - you can advertise on this forum for free http://www.ukrmb.co.uk/showcontent.toy?contentnid=7379 i shift some to a bird centre, only the headshot stuff though (lead risk), feed a lot to my own dogs. cribbarth
I used to sell them for 2shillings a couple, everyone bought,no problem, and that was before mixy so the rabbits were everywhere, with modern kitchen gadgets like mincers, you could mince the meat and you could store more in your freezer than whole rabbits.to all you guys who have good rabbit shooting your all lucky so-n-so,s.cheers cribbarth
Dave-G
I have a butcher who will take 20 a week and I sometimes struggle to get that many every week. If the truth be known I mostly "harvest" them to get only 20 as often as possible but during the crop harvest it's pest control only. I left over 40 in the grass edges just off the crop area this morning for the farm hands to see and foxy to pick up. Most of my permissions are arable farms so it's a massive surplus in a small window of opportunity at harvest time. I shoot two golf clubs when the courses are dry and when crops are high I thin some off grazing land. EDIT: Forgot the welcome bit - welcome to the forum Chris.
