30-6
I've always breathed in and held my breath to take a shot, but recently i read it's best to breathe out and hold your breath, which is right ?

Frenchieboy
I would not like to say which is right or which is wrong! It really is a case of what suits you best! What I do is when I am on aim I try to slow my breathing down and then take a couple of even steady slower breaths as I slip the safety off. This has the effect of helping to control my heart beat.Immediately before I take the shot I take a final deep breath and then start to steadily exhale. Halfway through exhaling I hold the rest of the air in my lungs and then squeeze the trigger. Many other members will tell you they have their own way of doing it which is different to mine but this is what I find works best for me! Vipa
shouldn't 'hold' your breath at all... the shot should be fired at the bottom of your normal breathing cycle... during the normal delay between breathing out and starting to breath in. If time permits, it is advantageous to take a slightly deeper breath before exhaling to take the shot.
reddan
I was always told to take a couple of good deep breaths in and out and then once exhaled (with lungs empty) final steady and take the shot. That was at a static target that won't ever move though. Dan

Acid House
The body is naturally more stable without air in it. I suppose its like sitting on a space hopper and shooting ...............
njc110381
I shoot at the end of the out breath. As Vipa said though you shouldn't really "hold" your breath as it doesn't take long to become unsteady. If I want to be absolutely spot on I tend to breathe out, pause for maybe a second and wait for my heart to beat and then fire.
kent
I've always breathed in and held my breath to take a shot, but recently i read it's best to breathe out and hold your breath, which is right ? You need to learn all ways shooting quarry. Between breaths, half exhale or just plain stop and snap. No one way is going to deal with all circumstances like shooting stances practice many
ack-ack
I prefer to hyperventilate before breaking cover and bayonet charging whilst screaming at the top of my voice.

Dougy
The body is naturally more stable without air in it. This is 100% correct, without air the body will not move, unless of course somebody moves it into a body bag Sorry im going
Kes
I agree with the chap who says you should try in all stages of breathing to get off an accurate shot as very often in the field you dont have time to fully set-up your breathing. That said, it is easier for me to fix the crosshairs for longer as I slowly exhale, firing as the crosshairs cross the target. Each to whatever is his own though. kyska
The reason you pull the trigger on exhale is that the diaphragm is relaxed on breathing out, but uses contraction on inhalation, to keep any muscle contracted causes tremor.
