I'm doing a nato green roller job on a Isuzu trooper.

Ordered 5 Ltr of paint, masking tape, wet and dry, roller's, primer for the rust spot's and those wipe's.

Do i need anythink else?

Question's.

Do i need to thin the paint?

Do i need to use a rust inhibitor on the rust spot's they are only small at the moment?

How long is the painting likely to take, there's two of us doing the work, all the prep will be done the day before and we were going to start at about 5pm painting in the hope there's less bug's about in the evening.

I,ve read most of the post's on paint job's on here where i got some good info, just looking for more help.

Thank's for any help. :good:

You will need some news paper/body filler/rust treatment is a must or it will be back through in no time.

Some tips, you could heat up the body work with a heat gun, this will make it dry quicker, your local motor factors will mix spray paint for a better job. :good:

Any chance of some before and after pics :hmm:

Thank's for the advice, I'll get some rust treatment but the spray is beyond my budget and talent.

Get a packet of Scotch brite....it will help key up the paint....

I have all the stuff for my Terios, i was told to use sugar soap combined with the ultra fine scotch brite pads by dipping the pads into the sugar soap solution which keeps the dust down and degreases at the same time. Then wash off the sugar soap solution and your ready to paint.

Saying that i have had the stuff for a few weeks and keep putting the job off.

If you are hand rolling then you are not over keen on finish quality . You won't need to mask anything off . Just try your best not to get it on the rubbers if you do wipe it of with a rag .

Now get off the computer and get outside and get it done

Then photograph it and put the pics up ....

I have next week off work and my wife and daughter are going away with my wifes sister, i`m going to back to black the plastic panels on the lower half of the car tomorrow then paint it next week, as it`s a terios and with plastic half way down all around it means alot less painting so i should have it done in a day. I`m just not sure how much to paint? i could go silly and paint inside the doors etc or just do what is on the outside and can be seen and avoid doing wheel arches etc.

Spraying your motor wont cost as much as you may think, this cost me £160 in materials and as it was for my niece the labour was free  . So a full respray 2 tone in 2 stage pearl for £160 is pretty cheap but for a standard 2k green (ready mix) you could buy the paint for around £70 and that would be enough to do your trooper.

I used paint from Anchor Supplies http://www.anchorsupplies.com/paint.htm

I did not thin it and 5ltrs only managed 2 complete coats on my Jimny. I think it really needed 3 for a better finish.

Dont be tight with the rollers, as soon as they get soggy, change it for a new one.

I ordered the same paint because i've seen your jimny. :good:

How many roller's do you reckon I've got 8 ?

Cracking job that' We just want to tidy the trooper up a bit.

It's been sprayed green before but it's gone a bit yellow and has a few rust spot,s now.

Like i say lack of talent with a spray gun let's me down.

It's only cost me £60 up to now. :good:

I'll try some photo's but i'm afraid more lack of talent might let me down again.

I've tried for month's to put some pic's on here, the only one i,ve managed is the one at the side here.

In fact i've been trying since boxing day last year when i shot my first fox.

I cant remember exactly how many I used, think it was 3 or 4 packs of 4 :hmm:

You will see what I mean when they get soggy, the ends start to break off and the roller starts to slide instead of roll

The most time consuming part was masking up. Worth doing it properly though, then the painting is real quick as you dont need to potter about around the edges.

hi mate i work in a body shop just remember to spirit wipe(degreaser) the car first to remove any finger prints and dirt.as before scotch pads are the best way to key the old paint in (use the grey ones for this )are you going to remove the tailights and indicators (easy to do and less masking )as it will make the for a better finnish.as for rust rub it to bare metal then smooth it with 500 wet anddry to remove scratches and treat with a rust proofer like q . and lastly dont rush it let the first coat dry first(rub down any runs with 500 w&d then put the second on and so on

dependant on when your doing it i could get you some proper rollers (we use them for putting primer on)and they would give the best finish poss if your intrested pm me

best of luck andy

If the plastic you are going to re black are the same as bumpers etc, get a heat gun like a paint stripping one and very carefully heat the plastic up nice and evenly being careful not to touch the heat gun onto the plastic. It will be like new in no time and will last longer than any sprays etc
