This question is really for those of us who spend a lot of our leisure time standing around waiting to start beating !! I'm hoping to avail myself of the summer (sic!) sales when stores get rid of their old winter stock, and being I have always suffered from cold hands and feet (too much blood in the alcohol I think!!). I have tried various types of solutions, especially in the footwear department such as leather, neoprene etc., with little obvious success - so I am after advice on: 1. What are the best gloves for actually keeping my hands warm, that are man enough for doing a proper beaters job - thorns, brambles, barbed wire whatever. Puny thin shooting gloves certainly don't cut it! 2. Same again on the footwear stakes, as I said above, I've had Chameau lined (leather and neoprene) wellies and Chameau leather short boots all to no real avail. My current plan is possibly Le Chameau Vierzonord Extreme Neoprene Wellington Boots or Muckboot Tay Sport or just keep my old gear but add Sealskinz socks, if I can work out which ones are the right ones and if they are really any good! Naturally if I was expecting to actually shoot - I would have to reduce the gloves down so I could actually do something with my fingers, but this isn't so important when beating, which is what this question is really aimed at. Yes they are really good, I got my cousin some gloves last year he was using them while breaking the ice in troughs his hands stayed dry and warm all day! Not had any cause to try them yet as its not been cold enough, but if you believe all the reviews around them, they should be more than up to the job. Gloves, I don't know, I've never found a pair I could comfortably shoot with ( & I tried plenty!) I eventually gave up looking & do without. Thanks for that - I do quite fancy them - would you say they are the same size as any other boots size for size, it's just that I can't find any locally and will probably have to by online? I was worried about the amount of support they would give but they're quite stiff at the bottom and I reckon they're much better than my hiking boots. I've got quite wide feet and normally take an 8 but found that with a pair of thick Bridgedale socks a 9 fits me like a glove. The only downside is they are a ****** to get off! Nial. The cordura drawstring tops may not be the height of hunting'n'shooting fashion, but I've found them the only design that I can walk comfortably in all day without them twisting my trouser legs round or dragging my socks off. Can't find any now but the closest I can get are either Baffin Trapper - www.koolbox.co.uk - or Wildhunter Greenlander - www.wildhunter.eu Personally I never buy footwear mail-order, need to try them on, and thats what game fairs are for. Really warm and cost about £10! Got them in a deep-sea fisherman's shop in Lerwick where they know what cold is. Can't see them in their current catalogue, perhaps you have to wait for winter.
