any recomendations for young driver insurance companies to attain quotes from

18 yr old daughter looking at getting her first car

thanks

Try Direct line mate, thats what i used for my daughter when she was 17 :good: they were the cheapest we could find :good: still expensive  but no where near what other companys quoted :good: BB

If my memory serves me right £1300 for the year fully comp,on her own policy, that was for a 1.3 ford Ka,that was 2 years ago though  BB

Try Admiral, this came up cheapest through confused.com to insure a renault clio 1.5 deisel fully comp for my 19 year old son at £1150, limited to 5000 miles per year. Its his own policy with myself and her in doors as named drivers on the policy, so at last I can use his fuel :good:

My eldest daughter is 18 and has just passed her test. She is with Aviva. My wife looked into everything and even paid the annual premium on a VW Fox. Price was £1k + the robbers.

Thing is my youngest daughter is learning to drive and the instructor thinks she might pass soon! Joy of joy. :/

Guess what it's all my fault as there is only 14 months between them.

dont forget to do pass plus as can bring the premium down

Yep and find out about car trackers to limit the hours your daughter will drive, as long as she doesn't work in a pub or do early morning work these can make substantial savings.

Also, you could consider, although not attractive to a young girl, a car van, fiesta, 206, as they can't take back seat passengers that also has big savings....either way you're gonna have to pay big time unfortunately.

I wouldn't bother with that idea mate! Since they changed all that now all van's count as commercial vehicle's even ig for private use. I was told they therefore won't insure you on one until your 21 and then it costs a mint! Its a joke!

When I first passed, i had a 1.4 golf mad insurance quotes, so I added a big bore exhaust insured it through a specialised car insurance company for mods and saved 600 quid a year, ok the exhaust cost 300, but after 2 years i made that monies back!

they were Chris Knott insurance, I am in no way affiliated with them

erdit: also preferential rates through a car club!

I work as an estimator for a accident repair shop & deal with insurance companies on a daily basis. I think your gonna get hammered no matter who you try! for me to suggest trying a certain company wouldn't be much use, different areas, cars etc. but let me give you a few pointers...

insurance companies accross the uk are struggling at the moment it seems..we all know why! try a phone call rather than just going on line.. a bit of haggling could work for you at this point in time... also play around with the size of your excess, some people think that by whacking it up is automaticaly going to lower their premium, not the case! or sometimes it might.. but only by very little! also read the small print carefully! companies like direct line wouldn't supply you with a courtesy car unless it was a non fault accident, so if your daughter was employed things could become tricky commuting to and from work! also if the third party disputes the claim if they ran into you, you would be in the same boat untill such time liability is resolved. not a problem i hear you say i can get a car from the bodyshop...not that simple most garages won't supply a car unless you are over 21!plus you will still have to pay the excess until liability is resolved...so watch the size of you excess!

also some compnies will only provide a car for 14 days, what if a part for your car goes on back order and it takes several weeks to arrive? they won't care! so ask the question "will your car be for the full duration of the repair?"

they will also try an push you towards their recomended repairers & if you insist that it goes to a repair shop of your choice they could up your excess or ask you for a contribution to the repairs, if that garages hourly rate is more than their own repairers. so if your fussy about the standard of work you have done on your vehicle be careful! and remember they are their recomended repairers not because their good it's because their cheaper!

so my advice would be not to just go for the cheapest quote! but see what your getting for your money! if some of the things i've mentioned are important to you it could be worth paying a extra few quid.
