bobt
Dont forget that the reason it was hit by a car, could well be that it was sick in someway, not being able to see it prior to death may mean you are eating bambi with added TB. can you perform a level 2 gralloch? SimonT
I think unless I had ran over the deer or had seen the car do it, I would leave it, becuse you dont know how long the deer has been there and even if the guts are intact the bacteria will still migrate through the gut wall. Now that would depend wouldn't it Personally i say leave them only get £35 for a full roe carcass against risking desease/ contamination or a shot of imobalon or anasthetic. Imobalon (traquiliser) will kill you even in small amounts. I can certainly inspect a normal carcass but one thats been squished by a ton or so of steel at speed might be a bit touch and go. If it was wounded and stessed the meat will be very poor and how soon or well was it bled out. I have fed casualty deer i have finished myself to dogs but i always boil it first but its not something i would do as a norm

955i
In all fairness, take it home and eat it!! Depending on where it is, the chances of a vet being called out to it are minimal (if at all). Turn ya nose up at free food, no way!! Davyo
the law is (i think) if you run it over then you are not allowed to pick it up and you have to leave it!! but if you are in the car behind the person that ran it over then you can stop and pick it up and take it home!! hope this helps second that
Beardo
Trust me, that law does not exist!

cockercas
Why do people want to eat deer they have found by the side of the road. Fair enough if you hit it and had a knife handy to gut it but not one you have just found. For gods sake stop been tight and buy some from the butchers
apache
Depending on where it is, the chances of a vet being called out to it are minimal (if at all). More common than you might think. I have been called out to two deer this year by the RSPCA, I shoot them now but used to have to inject them. Multiply that up by the number of vets and I would guess thousands of RTA deer are put down by vets every year. The closer to the road the more likely a person is to have called the police/RSPCA. Since a rather unpleasant incident involving the RSPCA, a captive bolt gun and some dogs they RSPCA no longer kill anything, they use vets. We have done a lot more work for them in the last 18 months/2 years.
