Blunderbuss
Had a variation in with Gloucestershire for nearly 8 weeks now, for an increase in ammo allowance and a few extra slots for range use, nothing strange or contentious. I've phoned twice and been given a sob story about how busy they are and received assurances from one of the guys in the office (who to be fair is always polite and helpful) that my application was with the licensing manger and he'd try to move it to the top of the pile and get it signed off. I've been told that twice now, a week and two weeks ago. I ran out of ammo yonks ago, because they gave me a pathetically small allowance to start with, so their poor admin has effectively stopped me shooting. I'm tempted to phone BASC tomorrow to see if they can put a rocket up their *****. Am I being unreasonable?
Redgum
join the club Blunderbuss,I'm on week five now with Gloucestershire for a variation and ammo increase, luckily, as I reload, I have plenty of ammo. You probably have spoken to Bob Parry, nice bloke but he always mentions its held up with the licensing manager, who always seems to be out for a few days. Initially Bob reckoned turn round time would be three weeks, once that time had passed I phoned and apparently my license had been'lost' but was found in a 'folder'. Its now in the hands of 'Les' who I quess is the licensing manager and will be with me early next week(we will see). I don't feel to bad about it as a mate of mine has just recieved his FAC, a nice speedy 7 (seven) months turn round time :o :o . I'm all for a license price increase it these things become a thing of the past

I'll give BASC a call tomorrow to see if they can move things along. I agree, I'd happily pay a bit more for better service and a consistent national approach to conditions etc.

Lloyd90
My FAC has been away for about 6 months now to remove a mentoring condition for fox and to add deer (which I have to have a mentoring condition added for) needed new letters even though it was the same mentor as for fox! Had that for 2 years, n they were still reluctant to remove it ...
Blunderbuss
Phoned BASC who were sympathetic but obviously couldn't do much. They suggested I phone the Licensing Manager, try to pin them down on a turn around time and if it wasn't likely to be soon, get them to send my FAC back in the interim so I could buy ammo. Hopefully that won't necessary. I phoned the office manager and had a polite whinge She pulled my file up on the computer, put me on hold while she went into a conflab with a colleague, then came back and promised me it would be in the post on Monday We shall see To be fair I've always found them OK on the phone, although they often sound a bit stressed/harassed. It's just everything takes so long. I'd imagine in terms of police resourcing priorities they're not near the top of the list, so I do have a little sympathy with them Edited October 7, 2011 by Blunderbuss

Chr15j
No fair! I put in for variation to add .223 to .22 and FEO really put me through the ringer asking if I gad done dsc, how much exp with .223 (d'uh none as not licensed and live remotely'ish so don't tend to go out with others too much). He then contacted my land owner who had signed me off for fox and deer on the land and came back having basically led him into saying foxes not a prob and thus no good reason! I got my .22 ticket opened up but I'm not a happy bunny! Ps the FEO only shoots shotguns! *** does he know then! Rant over
