The Human Primate
Dear All, Some advice required please....Recently sold my house, with my ex-partner, and because the purchase of new abode was taking so long and I didn't want to loose the sale, I've moved in with parents. My Dad is a shotgun holder and my guns have gone into his cabinet so they are secure....but at what stage do I need to tell licensing, my sale is only a couple of weeks to completion and don't want to keep sending changes of addresses. Once I move it will be into a different county. Am I worrying over nothing or being a lazy so and so. Many thanks for any and all replies
apache
If it's shotguns I wouldn't worry so long as they are stored securely. If you also had a FAC and your father had no ticket then maybe tell them. You'd have to take his keys then.
HDAV
Technically you should tell them, it may be worth contacting them and explain the situation as they are unlikely to want to do a load of unnecessary paperwork, but your old address will still be flagged on PNC I think. May get you into hot water if anything happens at old address in meantime or at your fathers, you could be risking both certs, I would suggest adding them fathers cert as "lent" then back to you on your new cert when you move that way all above board Edited October 30, 2011 by HDAV
Redgum
If they are all shotguns then you are allowed to lend them for up to 72hrs, who's to know when the 'lend' started. Rifles are a differant business, in the long run and it could be a good while before you have your new address so it might be best to put them into a RFD's for storage. ( obviously not much fun if you want to use them )
The Human Primate
Many thanks for the replies, the good news is that its only shotguns...didn't renewal my firearms a few years back due to lack of use but I should stop being lazy and give the a ring, even if its only for them to put a note on the file. again many thanks
Ferret Master
If your Dad has access to them for any longer than a 72 hour period then they need to be on his ticket too and your firearms department need to know. Me and my Dad have the same shotguns on each of our SGC's. FM

North Yorks know me and the wife share a cabinet, but I have my guns on my ticket and she has hers on her ticket. I have a separate cabinet for FAC, that she doesn't have access to. I asked if guns needed listing on both and was told no as she could borrow them for 72 hours all perfectly legal.

I asked if guns needed listing on both and was told no as she could borrow them for 72 hours all perfectly legal. This was my initial thoughts, however if my Dad were to be away for more than 3 days and I had a set of keys then in theory I have full access to guns not on my ticket. Phoned my FLO up when my Dad bought a semi that wasn't on my ticket and he just said to write it on both. Madness ain't it!? FM
Jan147
Better to keep them informed and have peace of mind. If something happened to your guns whilst elsewhere it could affect your future applications. You should not have access to someone else's cabinet/keys as they could be deemed irresponsible too and could affect both your licences. Vince Green
Always tell them, its the only way to go about things. Let them decide and you get no comeback. They will probably just say thanks for keeping us informed but if they want to start reissuing certificates well thats up to them. Or just a phone call to get the best advice, i've found they are really a decent bunch and very helpful (well the essex and suffolk lot are anyway) and you'll get it all sorted in a matter of minutes. Dead easy.
