Hi Guys,

Got my new air rifle and once i've got the scope all tweaked so I can hit stuff quite accuratley im gonna go for a few birds in my garden.

Although, IS THIS LEGAL?

My garden is - 50m x 20m so I would be about 30m away from target so would hit it all ok. And the neighbours wont mind.

Thanks,

Robbo

if youre in a built up area dont go there mate as its not worth the trouble that may find you!

this is my opinion only find somewhere out of harms way and have happy hunting

cheers kirky

Well, im not in a built up area as such, and the neighbours are hardly ever in and wont have any objections at all.

But need to get good 1st :D

Its really not worth it. Unless they are a complete and utter pest (that you can prove) its just not worth it. Like they say, if it flies over into your neighbours garden and dies there then you can be in a whole world of trouble. If your new to the sport, its unlikely that you will be immediately ready to take on quarry anyway...stick with paper targets and metal tin cans etc for now. If you really want to get into hunting etc, firstly practice, make sure you are accurate and have the power in your rifle and do it somewhere on private land for a farmer or someone similar. Its not too hard to get land....and it saves you from getting into trouble. Pop into a local gunshop, they can usually give you loads of information on this and usually list people who are asking for airgunners for pest control.

*** people lay off the bloke we all had to start somewhere. I started shooting pigeons rabbit and rat in my garden. It gives you a great confidence boost ready for when your out in the field. Mate go for it just make sure you have a safe backstop and that the pellet doesnt leave your boundary.

I think folks are just trying to make sure he doesn't do anything illegal, or aren't seen to be condoning any illegal practices. He did say "go for a few birds in my garden" - didn't mention what kind. It was only last week (or maybe the one before) someone got prosecuted for shooting a gull in his garden - one that I believe was already on the general license.

Thanks mate. Ive got a very big wooden backstop and my new scope allows be to be accurate enough to get a 2p coin size.

No where are those pigeons :D

And your reason for doing this mate?

You need a good reason to do this, I would'nt want to see a guy get in world of trouble because he thought he had an automatic right to do this. It just takes one person to see the shooting occur and your possibly in a ton of bother because the bird is not a pest in YOUR garden. YOU have to exhaust other methods in YOUR GARDEN before you can shoot them.

snap, its how most of us started, I had the luch that neighbours kept doves and through feeding them attracted every feral in the county. Used to be cracking fun. This country may be going a bit PC crazy but some of the stuff we did as kids was great. But living in the country I guess its a bit different,

I hear you guys - in the old days we could stroll down down country lanes with an uncovered rifle and pop away happy as you like. These days are a different kettle of fish, anti's - tree huggers - terrorist threats - luvvie MP's, sensationalist media etc. them days is gone mates

Robbo,

I will ask your age again, as you haven't given it.

It is an offence for a person under the age of fourteen to have with him an air weapon or ammunition, except when being supervised by a person of twenty one years or more on private premises, and even then it is an offence for the firing of any missile outside the private premises.
