Wildfowler12
My second boresnake has just broken, the pull cord has ripped, just like my first one did. Has anyone else had this trouble? I don't want to keep buying them if they're going to keep breaking, but they work so well.
bennyblanco
My .17 has looked like it was going to fray and break from day one but has lasted five years, I don't think I would buy another if you have gone though two.
fergie
Sorry not an answer but I have just bought one what I would like to know is do I need to put anything on it i.e oil or spry etc
Muddy Funker
Sorry not an answer but I have just bought one what I would like to know is do I need to put anything on it i.e oil or spry etc I don't bother when using it on the shotty. Just a couple of pulls through each bore and the result is pretty amazing. No substitute for a full monty clean with rods ect but for a quickie after a days pigeon shooting it work perfectly! compo90
heard a lot of folk spray or drop a bit of oil on their snake and keep it in a re-sealable plastic bag.....helps it clean better and i would imagine stops it sticking and would reduce friction can it be sticthed and repaired? Wildfowler12
It can possibly be stitch repaired but I'd imagine once it's gone, it's going to keep breaking at the same point? Sorry not an answer but I have just bought one what I would like to know is do I need to put anything on it i.e oil or spry etc I either spray down the barrels and pull through, or on my viper I oil the red section at the top and then pull through Edited December 19, 2011 by Wildfowler12
david hunter
dont put your foot on the cord and pull it through the barrels that way.wrap it around your wrist.it will last years.also you can put it in the washing machine using a washing bag.. Wildfowler12
I only ever use the 'wrap it round your wrist' technique. Maybe it's nakerd because I put it in the wash without a bag. It got tangled in a towel.
bullet boy
Never had any problems with my 12 gauge Boresnsnake or my .22 one!
TheHunter
I have snakes for .17 .22 .24 .30 and 12bore and can't see a fray on any of them, how are you using them? I can't see how the cord would rub against anything long enough to wear! Drop the weight through the barrel, breech to muzzle, hold cord while turning rifle\gun to face you, wrap cord around hand (gloved if you have delicate hands) and pull. The cord doesn't rub against anything. Have i missed something here? TH
Cottonseed
I did hear that some of the Boresnakes available on a well-known auction site are counterfeit, not the Hoppes version--and they snap easily. Whether it's true, or not, I don't know.

Just got a replacement from the UK
JustJon
So... I fancy a bore snake - been using rods up till now but would like to bore 3 times/month and rod once as a proper clean up. I guess I still need to do the chokes seperate each time (remove before pulling snake through?) and clean the action end up? Any recommendations for a good bore snake? What do people use on the action end? I've tried a toothbrush with gun cleaner but doesn't seem to do much - I've still got residue all over the end. Thanks, Jon
Bloggs
The pull-cord of my bore snake detached, all I did was drill a hole about 40mm from the end, threaded it through and secured it with a good knot - works perfectly Have to say that the bore snake is an excellent piece of kit - highly recommended
ChrisAsh
Dont remove the chokes before using the snake, you will be brushing the choke thread which over a long time will wear it down a bit and not make a tight fit (Not over one week or month but over a long time)
crob12
Are these worth buying
Wildfowler12
Definitely worth buying, just make sure you buy one from the UK tht isn't a counterfeit.
OvEr_KiLL
if you want a hoppe's and dont want to buy off ebay john norris have them and they wont be fake! http://www.johnnorris.co.uk/shop/ty_312-gun-cleaning-/7648-bore-snake-8512.html
Georgy
I've got a fake one(well ebay china), works brilliantly. Not a substitute for full clean though. Brilliant for £7, not sure i'd pay £20+ for one, when a full kit is about that! Edited December 21, 2011 by Georgy

Thanks, Jon I use some cotton buds with a few drops of bore cleaner on it. That gets rid of all the residue around the ejectors. Then I just go round with a clean dry one and it looks like new.
