Blunderbuss
I'm in the market for some good quality glass to stick on my Tikka T3 6.5mm Swede, which is currently wearing an MTC borrowed from my HMR. I'd really like an S&B, Zeiss,or Svarovski, but they're out of my budget, or new ones are at least, I do keep an eye out for second hand bargains. This caught my eye and seems, on the face of it to be a real bargain? I know Meopta scopes have a very good reputation, but I'm not familiar with them. Does anyone know what the difference is between this "budget" Meopro, and their more expensive Artemis and Meostar scopes? Also, how it's likely to compare to more expensive German (or Hungarian) glass from one of the aforementioned makers? Grateful for views from those who've used them, ta muchly Edited December 26, 2011 by Blunderbuss

lineshooter
I had a look at many a scope make when I was after glass for my CZ550, very good optics on these and the controls feel robustly made, I have MTC scopes on my air rifles but these I think are much better. I was tempted but I went for a Vortex Viper in the end, it was at a price I could`nt pass upand we all know it`s down to budget in the end so saving a bit here goes towards something else. screamingdead
I was going to order this model from Sportsman before Christmas, but they didn't have any stock. In the end, a local shop price matched them My other scope is a Zeiss Duralyt & the Meopro seems to compare quite well. SD
drut
Don't know about Meopro but have Artemis 2000 6x42 bought 2nd hand 3yrs ago.Glass is top quality on par with S&B etc & build quality very robust, sight picture deceptively large for 6x mag.Reticle is very fine(4b)which combined with the sight picture allows for longer range shooting than 6x mag would suggest but is too thin for my old eyes to use easily with a lamp. Cheers, I won't be doing much lamping with it, so it should be fine. I'm definitely leaning towards this if Sportsmans have them in stock. Gimlet
I have a Meostar 3-12X56 on my .308. Its a superb scope. Its a 30mm tube and every bit the equal of an S&B and to my eyes better than a Duralyt. Light gathering is second to none. This scope does have the reticle in the 1st focal plane which means the reticle gets larger or smaller as the magnification is increased or reduced. This might put some people off but the subtensions are the same thoughout the mag range so there is no change in POI. Don't let it put you off. You quickly get used to it and it can help shot placement at longer ranges- which is the idea. It has fixed parallax at, I think, 100/125 yds. Fine for stalking, but for routine shots beyond 250 yds you'd be better off with vari-focus. The Meospro is the budget scope of the range but a very good one. Its a 25mm tube, 2nd focal plane reticle but I can't remember whether its vari-focus or fixed parallax. Either way its a perfect HMR scope. You won't find better light gathering for the money. Don't know much about the Artemis but from the standard set by the two above I doubt you'd go for wrong with one. I'd have no hesitation recommending the Meostar for your T3 Swede. PS: Meopta don't hold their value quite as well as the big three Europeans, so second hand bargains can be had. 12borejimbo
I have a Meopta 7x50 Artemis 2000 on my .22, and wouldnt change it. Very good glass for the money. Ive also got a Schmidt and Bender 3-12x50 which is about to be mounted on a Tikka 595 in 22-250, when I compare the glass, the Schmidt takes the biscuit, but only just and I paid 5 times more for the Schmidt. I bought my Meopta for £200 second hand. New on www.scopesdirect.co.uk they are £495. A very good scope for the Money, lovely clear glass, good light gathering, and a very nice thin reticule too, which is nice and accurate. Ive got a top end Nikon scope, which is also very good, unmounted, still in the box. In order of quality I would go Nikon, Meopta, Schmidt and Bender. I would personally go for a decent Meopta again, or defo consider a Burris scope. Very good glass. Send stevienicknacks a PM, he will get you a good deal shipped over from the USA. Gimlet
I'm going to buy another one just as soon as I can find the model I want (r1) for sale anywhere but the sportsman Try Northallerton Shooting - www.nsac.co.uk They're Meopta dealers. They were a match for SGC prices back in the summer. Don't know if they'll match £320 though that is a bit of a steal. Try them see if they'll do a deal. Must say I've never ordered from them but found them very helpful when I've made enquiries - more so than SGC. EDIT: sorry, you want the R1. You won't get that for £320! They're quoting £648 for the 3-12x56 and £817 illuminated. Edited January 7, 2012 by Gimlet
