CZ550Kevlar
just been thinking if it can be done safely, dont need the exitement that it would generate in all honesty better off discharging the primer or soak in oil then de-cap. Harnser
Shoot it off . For what they cost it isn't worth trying to de-cop them . Primers are very volatile so dont play around with them . Harnser .

njc110381
I've done it with dozens, maybe even hundreds. I've never had one pop on me. Having said that my press has a primer catching tube and when I do punch out live ones I always remove it and drop them out one at a time. One primer popping isn't a big deal in my experience (I've had a couple go whilst seating them) but you wouldn't want a pile of them to chain fire! Wear safety specs, keep them seperate and just get on with it. Even if it does go in my experience it's nothing serious as long as it's just the one. Worst that could happen I should think is that your decapper pin is tight in the neck of the case so when/if it does go off it the primer could be ejected from the pocket at some pace? Even then I can't see it being that bad.
rem708
I've done this safely many many times. If they are hand loads they should come out simply and safely. ALWAY wear safety glasses at a minimum! If they are factory installed primers then they will be tight. If they are miltary grade they will be sealed by 'paint', crimped or peened in. If you are worried then the solution is simple. Just a small spray or dribble a little WD40 into the primer hole makes them innert. I used to reload a min of 1,000 rounds a week so had a regular need to un-cap. Just do things slowly and carefully
Floating Chamber
I wasnt looking to save the primers just wondered if it could be done? you know when you think, kin ell thats dodgy is there a safe way of doing it Boiling dynamite in water to extract the nitroglycerine is also dangerous. Edit: And DEADLY. Always wear a name-tag***! *** that's tied to a large brick! Edited January 22, 2012 by Floating Chamber
