Why sell the 425? I think we have had this discussion already the 686 in a wide range of styles and models has been around for a long time some say the 686 E from early mid eighties are the best built. The new ones are similar but not the same.

You can also say the same about browning they are now built by miroku and the new models are NOT THE SAME quality !!!!

Why have a browning when u can have a beretta, at least a beretta is a beretta and not a fake miroku lol

Have you tried a few of the new models you are looking at? I only ask as I get the impression you like the feel of the older guns and if this is the case you may not be so impressed with the newer Berettas.

Although I'm shooting Browning/Miroku now I've had a couple of Berettas over the last year or so and I haven't been massively impressed with the quality personally. I'm not knocking Beretta or any other manufacturer, but I'm convinced that most of them have had to design/make their products down to a price in recent years and to me it shows.

I've got a 20 year old Browning 325 (also made by Miroku) and to me it's far better put together than the brand new MK38 I bought last year. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with both of them but you can see where corners have been cut to keep a lid on retail prices.

Also ref Browning, I don't think they have ever actually been a manufacturer. Historically they have been a firearms designer, always licensing their products for others to manufacture (as far as I know).

Good luck with your decision and I hope you find what you're after :good:

Iggy.

If you read my post I stated quite clearly that I wasn't knocking any brand, but thanks for the balanced view :)

I bought a new silver pigeon 1 two years ago and it didn't have the quality feel of the 686/682 series I had in the 80's. My friend took a fancy to it and I sold it to him without doubting my decision. A 1986 S687 m/c sporter came my way the other week and it feels so much better than the modern silver pigeon and I snapped it up.

I've also got a late '70's Miroku 800S and I think that has a more solid feel to it than the modern Mirokus.

Perhaps I just like old things but I do think everything is now built down to a price to maximise profit far more than they used to be.

Just about a year ago I nearly had a Silver Pigeon 1 - looked and felt very good.

I was then very fortuanate and fell on a new 686E Sporting which was one of the last made.

It just seemed to fit better and and I prefered the plainer look of the action (personal thing I know).

The above plus a cracking deal on the price sealed it for me, amd I am very happy with my choice.

Have a look around, you never know what is still out there and you may grab a bargain.

Good luck.

Somehow i cant see the modern ones being like that. Only time will tell, Brownings prices are going up while beretta are coming down when i first looked for an O/U a brand new beretaa or browning sport was £1500 give or take, now Brownings are £1700 and beretta £1300 :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
