shaun4860
I don't believe in that, the fact they've decided to take an un-signposted route then try to either crawl or race down it at a stupid speed annoys me Plus as far as I'm concerned I'm in the bigger car and I know the route, most of the people I meet are people in their 3 series's trying to be smart. For the most part it's also usually harder for me to reverse a landrover into a tight space than it is for chief **** in his flashy sports car into the closest one to him sorry i didnt know you owned all the roads, i stand corrected, maybe a few driving lessons would help you learn the art of reversing using mirrors

These are the old boys and girls that only bring their cars out on a Sunday as they have spent all week cleaning and polishing them! They never want to reverse as when they past their test they didn't have reverse and have since never learnt how to use it and refuse to move over as there pre-historic lump of a car is scared of puddles and hedges! Come on Shaun you have to disagree with this one and I've missed your banter!!!! Royal Edited February 2, 2012 by Marine1980

Regards, Gixer My drivings fine, I've got an advanced license in order to lower insurance……..I wouldn't be seen dead in a BMW or anything that flashy, those cars are reserved for people in midlife crisis's or with little man syndrome who feel the need to buy a fast car in order to impress people. Yes because I live locally and know the un-signposted back roads as shortcuts, they should drive the routes designated…..the locals use these routes in summer to avoid the traffic jams they cause within the lakes, I add an extra 5 miles onto my commute in summer to avoid being stuck in a jam for an hour

Dont forget the Lakes need the tourists that you despise They might have the same legal right to use them but they should stick to roads that are designated as tourist routes rather than taking old pot-holed roads that the locals use in order to avoid running into people like that I never said I had difficulty I just said it was easier for them in the smaller car to reverse I know we need the tourists and we have a business built around them but I prefer the Japs when they visit as they all get taxis meaning no extra vehicles clogging up the place…….. Gimlet
Dare I say it, its not just townie incomers in 4X4s that are a pain in the ****, a lot of shooting and hunting folk aren't much better either. It really isn't necessary for thirty guns and beaters to travel the few hundred yards between drives in thirty different 4X4s, blocking gateways, tearing up verges and generally being oblivious to the rest of society just because they're having fun. Shooting is the tradition; anouncing to the world that you own a Discovery and like to wear a flat cap and Edwardian tweeds on alternate Saturdays through the winter isn't. Round here the hunt are even worse. I reckon 90% of the rural population are urban migrants. When country sports have been voted out of existence it will have been more to do with small discourtesies than any act of parliament. fizzbangwhallop
What really, really gets on my tits these days is the armpits that come up to a roundabout in the left hand lane and dive right cutting up those in the right hand lane. We've got a roundabout in Hitchin on the one-way system where, if you're coming at it from the town on the two-lane one-way into it, there's an exit towards Stevenage almost straight on, another to the right to Luton, and a two-lane one-way off it back towards Bedford ie almost back on yourself. Twice last week I've seen cars come up the lh lane from town go all the way round the outside of the flow to cut through the Luton traffic to go towards Bedford. How they didn't cause an accident I have no idea!! Stupid, stupid, stupid *****... words fail me!! :sly: Grrr, makes you wish they'd take themselves out of the gene pool! FBW lol! The bad words function obviously works - good stuff, wasn't that strong though.... began with a 't' Edited February 2, 2012 by fizzbangwhallop
Hamster
It really doesn't matter how careful and meticulously you drive around trying not to upset local Dr_Evils, the fact is it's impossible not to come head to head or find yourself wrong footed once in a while. Class shows through in how you handle these, lets face it, non events. Some people seem to specialise in never missing an opportunity to eye ball or brake test others , it has nothing to do with what you drive, more so what drives you methinks. DSPUK
I met an idiot on a small local road once - was in works van and it was single track road - A Volvo estate was hurling towards me so I slowed down to a near stop expecting Volvo to do same so we could then neatly put our nearside wheels on grass verge to pass - Oh no - It was a woman and when she realised I wasn't moving over it was too late - she swerved onto grass verge - I looked in mirror and saw 4 wheels off ground - good old drainage ditch -- also three kids bouncing up and down in back - silly bitch should have got up earlier. Dave

I suspect you mean you have passed an advanced driving test. As far as I am aware the DVLA only issue the one driving licence and any "advanced" test or certificate will have been issued by some wholly unregulated body interested more in lightening your wallet than your driving ability. It's a good job that you didn't demonstrate or even vocalise you "playing chicken" or "blocking the country lane" techniques as even the money making advanced driving examiners might have queried your fitness to drive! I must admit though Dr_evil I do envy your energy levels, you appear to have packed so much into your 20 years that I'm surprised you have time to sit twiddling your thumbs waiting for some unfortunate tourist to back up just because you don't think he/she have the right to be on the same bit of road, surely this wasted time might delay your Nobel Prize. A word of warning though, just as you appear to enjoy intimidating those in smaller vehicles than yours, one day you'll lurch round a bend and there will be a bigger vehicle than you coming the other way! Either that or a Beemer drive who is considerably bigger than you with a worse case of road rage than you, then you'll wish you'd practiced your reversing skills, unless of course you are a 19th Dan Origami Black Belt or you've invented a VTOL jet escape pack. Robin128
I remember a funny incident meeting a car on a lane . The other driver was almost alongside a pull in but refused to back up . He started to wave his hands in the air and gesticulate . So I got a newspaper from the back seat opened it up fully and pretended to read so he knew I wasn't budging . I could hear reving and shunting and then quiet. I lowered my news paper and the numpty had somehow managed to do a 26 point turn and drove off in the other direction .... Agh well at least I proved a point bullies don't always win It would 'ave to be a 27 point turn.

Devon Fox
speaking as a driving instructor (now a full time keeper), the institute of advanced motoring (IAM) is a fairly good course, if You want to see how good You really are - look into ROSPA, that is the true test of ability using the roadcraft manual, as used by the police etc, it is not a one off course like IAM where You pass and thats it, ROSPA is tested every Year and You are then awarded Gold.Silver etc etc, so You have to maintain a standard. To the poster who said "unregulated body lightning You wallet" - thats really unfair, police instructors, emergency drivers of different types and driving instructors give up there time free of charge to teach/advise, all You pay is for is the assesment, and of course the running costs of Your own car. The drivers that get up My nose when I am out in My L200, are the ones that stop and expect You to stuff Your 4x4 into the brambles and rip off Your paint, when all they had to do was drop back 20/30 yards. My truck is a tool and does get some ruff stuff thrown at it, but I am not going to remove paint because some stupid muppet cant/wont go backwards! IAM & Pass + both issue certificates NOT licences. a 7ft lane is fairly easily blocked by a standard discovery No ****, that comes as a bit of a surprise to me but I can't say I understand the relevance of your statement. But please feel free not to bother enlightening us! If mr beemer wants to have a go at me then he can feel free to do so whilst I lock my doors and call the police Not thought this through have you, you are in the middle of nowhere with the Police maybe 20 or 30 minutes away, Mr Beemer doesn't look like the sort who, when he realises you've locked the doors, will give up easily, he might be the sort who has found a creative use for a wheel brace. That's when you might regret not having practiced your reversing. Potter FO

All this talk about BMWs being flashy and fast. Yes some of them are, even the humble 320d M shifts when you poke it, and returns 55mpg when you don't. "Ultimate Driving Machine" isn't far from the mark. But you stick to your Disco(tracked) with chobham armour and a 155mm gun ruling the local roads for local people...
