digit
I went out last night to check on some sheep in a field near the house, i had a quick shine round the fields with the lamp before i got to the sheep, when i got to the fence where the sheep were i heard a noise like a puppy barking behind me, when i turned around with the lamp there was a fox about 20 yards away standing barking at me, when i had it in the beam of the lamp it turned and walked away down the field still barking. Has anyone else experienced anything like this

Greenhunter
Me too. From about 40yds away and not in a hurry to leave either. I think it had ideas about my chickens being his supper and was frustrated at being kept away.
steve_b_wales
Hell's Bell's Paul, those foxes are getting brazen mate. Time to crank up the artillery, me thinks! Speak soon. Steve.
Frenchieboy
I've not experienced this myself but would very much like to just to show them that the WMR's bite is worse than it's bark! On a serious note -Could you not have tried barking back at it as it might well have been a territorial thing - Could this be the case or worth trying in these citcumstances and at this time of the year Guys? rallyrus
That's a strange one, wish the foxes in my fields would do that so I could see what it thought of my two lurchers heading towards it at 30mph barking back haha

Catweazle
I've heard them barking near my house, but never in the field. I've had squirrels bark at me though, quite aggressively.
Cranfield
I have had one standing in the meadow behind our cottage barking at my dog. The dog just stared at it with mean intent, but never made a sound. The fox suddenly seemed to lose its nerve and raced off down the field flat out. I was a bit stunned to turn around and see the fox just standing there barking, barking back at it would have been the last thing on my mind I'm use to seeing the back end of them when they run off
Gimlet
They never do it when you've got a gun in your hand do they? Had a vixen circling my house and yapping like a terrier one night last summer. It turned out one of her cubs had got itself into a rabbit cage trap I'd set in the garden hedge.
