captainhastings
I was thinking of applying for a shotgun license as I have plenty of land too shot over. But in the past 6 months due too my delinquent daughter we have had the police out too the house a few times. I have never been the issue just she gets out of control so we have too get them out. So would I be sunk before I start do you think ?
phaedra1106
Best thing is to ring the firearms department and ask to have a chat with your local FEO, explain the situation and see what he says, he won't bite and as long as she's not been any real trouble you'll probably be OK. beretta88
no harm in trying mate ive been in trouble with the old bill and on some searous matters when younger i still got mine all be it with a personal letter from the cheif constable telling me that one more run in with them i would have it removed and no chance of being aloud it bk
bedwards1966
Assuming it isn't for anything too serious you ought to be OK, but I would do as phaedra1106 said and ring the FEO and explain it to them, they can inform you best. If you ask them about it and they feel it's OK then they'll see it goes through OK, it's better for you to ask them about it before they find out when you apply. captainhastings
Well form is all done ready for the post in the morning. I spoke too them on the phone but they couldn't really say until they process an application so I may as well give it a try. One question at what point do I get my cabinet before the police visit or after ?

I spoke too them on the phone but they couldn't really say until they process an application so I may as well give it a try. One question at what point do I get my cabinet before the police visit or after ? It's up to you really, the FLO will only tell you to get one anyway. I got mine fixed before the interview... It usually gets the ball rolling a bit quicker, it can take a while so I personally didn't want to waste any time. Reading your first post I shouldn't think you'd have a problem mate

One question at what point do I get my cabinet before the police visit or after ? before or they will have to come back to see it, if they phone to say they are coming then all checks have been done and your over the biggest hurdle just got to get the right biscuits in for your feo colin
Bowen20
If you didn't have the possibility of getting refused then I would buy it before hand and install it so that on the interview your feo could check it there and the . Where as if you waited till after they wouldnt issue you with a license until the flo had come and inspected the cabinet and made sure it was installed properly. This happened to my friend he didn't install if until after and the flo came out and viewed it and brought his license with him as it was ready any way. So if I were you I'd just wait and see how it all goes. If all goes well on the interview then go and Buy one install it and phone them tell em you have and wait for them to come back out. Might be wise to ask him on the interview where he would say the best place to put it would be might save some time.
HDAV
A cabinet is not a requirement for a cert! Only to store guns a friend had cert for 2 years before a cabinet was fitted and had a gun. I waited as I wanted to check placement with FEO. dan-250
The joys of being a non married dude and still living at home. They are only cheapish ones and all second hand tho apart from a new escort auto. Spanish sxs, 2 x o/u , and a 20b aya sxs, Thinking maybe a silenced .410 and a hammer gun to finish the collection. Maybe a Damascus barrelled one. I don't have a decent car or pet like that so my money goes on these, not likely to loose money on second hand stuff. So it's an investment

I tend to agree. The question that the cops must apply to your application decision is; can this person possess firearms without danger to public safety or the peace? This issue revolves around the applicant and not anyone else. Now, it may be that something related to your daughters behaviour may mean that your possession may pose a danger to public safety or the peace but it would be hard to see what that may be. J. JonathanL
It's an addiction tell Your other half the same as I tell mine (it's all investments) This is a very good point, actually. Firearms are a very sensible way of spening your money especially if you buy second-hand ones. It's very unlikely that you will ever lose much on them. Many peoples partners would go absolutely bonkers nuts if they spent £10K on a gun but wouldn't think twice about spending £10K of (usually) borrowed money on a car. In ten years time the car will be worth a few hundred quid o r possibly only scrap value. The £10K gun will still be worth several thousand pounds and there is every likelihood that you will get your whole outlay back or possibly even pull a profit. J. captainhastings
Well the chap came around and he was a very tidy chap. Only asked about 3 questions really. Why did I want a gun, Where was I going too keep it and how many people in the house. He did mention the daughter but it just came up on the computer check and was not really an issue. He was more concerned about explain what too do once I get the certificate as regards what too fill out when I buy a gun. He is going too pop back once my cabinet is installed which I have just ordered to check but it is in the bag really. Just got too wait now as he said they are very under staffed due too cut backs. So it might be quick or take ages no way he could tell on that score. So time too have a root through the forum on which gun advice
