spinach
Hi wanting to introduce my son to the shotgun and he amazed me with the fact he's Lt eye dominant and Rt handed. Apart from being amazed he knew what that meant it made me realise I need to think about guns and being taught properly. Anyone been through this position. HDAV
Yes me and plenty others search "eye dominance" how old is your son? It may be that if he is young its not set. Personally I started shooting RH and then got some good advice (from a decent coach) I changed shoulders and learnt to shoot left handed. Vince Green
Start with an eye patch and see where you go from there.

Scully
My nephew started out like this, aged 12.BASC coaches advised him to pick up the bird with both eyes open, and close the left as he mounted the (moving)gun.Seemed to work ok. I shoot R/H and am left eye dominant and only really found out when I started shooting clay's, I found that having shot for 20 years changing shoulders was not an option. I spent time with coaches and went through all other possible alternatives and the one that works for me is as above. I keep both eyes open untill the gun hits my shoulder then close my left, it took a little time to get used to but I do it without thinking now! David BASC
Same, here, left handed but right eye dominant. I use one of the Eazy Hit beads, but still tend to pick up the clay with both eyes open and half close the right one as i pull through the target. As you say it becomes second nature. He got an experienced coach to take a look, swapped it over and presto, he's top of the club. He has just learned to do it left handed. It's the right way to do it (in my and many others opinion) it isn't hard just takes some dedication shooting with one eye closed you will always be at a disadvantage.... Unless you cant shoot of the dominant eye side (injury etc) its the way to go (you can i have been told change your eye dominance! which is another alternative. dougall
the choice is change shoulder, not too bad if not been shooting long,or if feels it is only natural on his natural shoulder must dim/close eye when shooting.50 years ago some folk went for cross over stocks but cannot really see the point or attraction of that radical option!
