vulpicide
These are the people who will turn up while you are out shooting pigeons I don't have any faith in people who deliberatelly ignore Basic firearm safety rules.
Greymaster
Is it professional?...........No Was anyone hurt?..........No Does it really matter?.....No Get over yourselves people!!! Does it really matter? YES ALWAYS. Try telling the family of the unit member who was killed by such horseplay that it doesn't really matter. Are these are the guys who would like to turn up to a call when you are out lamping?
Canis
Horseplay and guns don't mix. Horseplay is simply not appropriate with a firearm in any situation. "never point a gun at anything that you are not trying to kill" is rule 1 of shooting. My 7 year old step nephew had it drummed into him to a level where he could explain it without prompting -before he was taken an where near an airgun range. these officers have no excuse. the reason for safety precautions is to ensure that due to operator error or firearm malfunctions (and various combinations of the both) accidents don't occur. I had an experience about 20 years ago during my time with the cadet force in my teens when i was on a night excercise. at the end of firing a live blank cartrige found itself retained on the bolt face by the (faulty) extractor claw. I had checked inside the ejection port including pushing a finger onto the chamber mouth( it was a 5.56 rife so my finger would not fit into the chamber) but did not notice the cartridge attached to the bolt. because it was dark my rifle was also checked by a member of directing staff with a torch. When i "eased springs" the cartridge fired. i was pointing the rifle in a safe direction in the prescribed fashion as i did so and the only thing hurt was my pride. If this personal annecdote has not proved the maxim " theres no such thing as an unloaded gun " I don't know what will! as far as i'm concerned the only thing that remains to be discussed is if the WPC who nearly got drilled for an extra orifice is cute or not! I'm with you on this, never heard such a load of pious garbage in my whole life. We should present ourselves at the local pond for our daily ducking and be stripped of our fac's for even thinking that it was Ok to occasionally play silly fools at work. death from below
What you will find on many police firearm courses is the first minute of the course the instructor(s) will give you a replica gun and you have about 5 seconds to point it wherever you like - after that the absolute golden rule is as we all know, never point at anything you don't want to kill/destroy. what they did was dumb, not funny and they deserve not to hold firearms ever again. it wasn't even an amusing pic. Whilst I may agree the police did the right thing by sacking them what gets my goat is the precious, self righteous claptrap that some spout on here. But then I suppose owning a pop gun to shoot a few rabbits does that to some people.

A sensible comment afloat in a sea of holier than you spraffing. 'Ordnance' I sense you've got a little hang up here further than than commenting on the photo. If the photo was two marines serving in Helmand-would there be the same views aired on here? storme37
i just feel if i did that to anyone here loaded or unloaded they would be more than justified in either never wanting to be near me again or reporting me after all nobody knows for sure weather it was loaded or not and they are the police they should know better. as for people having there licences revoked for not agreeing this was bad, no it doesn't mean they would do it themselves just because they don't think the copper should be sacked.
