xxx.Morph.xxx
Maybe a daft question but are extra shotgun barrels supposed to be entered on your cert? Reason being, I picked up a semi auto the other day with 26" & 28" barrels but there was nothing written on my cert about the number of or barrel lengths at all. When I bought the O/U the fortnight before the lad put down 28" on my cert. Cheers Morph
cant hit rabbits 123
Never had the barrel length entered onto my cert for any gun. Not sure if extra barrels should entered though.

farmshooter
But rifle barrels have to be entered onto a cert, but quite a few shot guns come with several barrels espsh clay guns so i would say proberly not FS

StuC
Grey area a barrel is a steel tube... With a proof mark Interesting point as I asked someone the other day which part of the shotgun was actually the 'gun'. The barrel is a piece of metal with a hole in it. Stock and foregrip are just wood and the action is just more metal with a few levers and springs. I'm sure your FEO would give their own opinion which is then what you'll have to follow! atb
mossy835
i had both put on my cert.
HDAV
IIRC there is a term for firearms of component parts but not for shotguns but some shotguns are firearms (in the eyes of the act) now take a 5 shot 12gauge auto say a barretta, same barrel as a 2 shot but different laws can apply to same barrel depending on the magazine capacity ( independent of the barrel) I am off the opinion that the barrel is just a tube and not required on SGC others may disagree but there are plenty of examples both ways round.... Blackstone
Firearm definition for components are, a part in which the pressure of firing directly impinges, or which the firearm cannot function without. I think basically most things except for stock, grips, magazines and sights are component parts. Then again this is for a shotgun so it might be different. xxx.Morph.xxx
Thanks for all the input guys. So as usual with UK gun laws nothing is crystal clear & it's open to opinion I'll let my FEO office know via email (already sent the purchase notification off) & then it's up to them what they do with the info. EdSolomons
I have 2 sets for my gun and both had to be entered on my licence
BlaserF3
It seems to differ from county to county, Cumbria Police say that barrels do not need to entered on a certificate, others say they should. I know that if the person you purchased the gun off enters the barrel serial number then you are advised to do the same. deershooter mentioned about three barrels for a Remington, I used to have spare barrels for mine and they were never entered. My 391 is on my sgc with just the number on the receiver entered.
JonathanL
As far as I'm aware component parts of shotguns do not need to be entered individually. J.
