JDog
I have no laid barley or wheat to shoot over but this evening I found three fields of oats which had gone down. Do members have any experience on shooting over laid oats?

JDog
Thank you for your reply. I watched for an hour this evening and there did seem to be birds going in to feed. If you have shot pigeons on oats there seems to be no reason why others cannot. I will let you know how I get on in due course.
pete1dart
The geese round here seem to like them more than the pigeons. Iv only had one good afternoon on oats. But that was when we had pushed them from a laid wheat field. Give them a go. You never know your luck!
carpentermark
BOTTOM LINE: If Pigeons are there feeding then you should get some sport no matter what is said on here.
yickdaz
never shot over laid oats, we have some on a few places and had good shooting when they were drilled, you will shoot birds on them if there feeding on it 100%, its just they prefer barley, and wheat this time of year on our ground
Cranfield
Pigeons will feed on ripening oats, but I think it depends what else is available, so it might not be high on their food choice list. In my area they seem to leave oats alone, but they have peas, barley, wheat, clover et., to go for. As has been said, watch the field and if the birds are there, go and decoy them. al4x
oats here are being left at the moment in preference to Barley, now thats getting to a stage they seem to be going mad for. The way its going at the moment there could be some cracking shooting to come if you can avoid the heaviest rain
