DrBlox
My son's going fishing with his school. But I can only get to the maggot shop 4 days before he sets off. Will they be alright in the fridge (in a suitable container)?
WelshLamb
Will the school provide them? But yes, they'll be fine
oscarsdad
Just make sure they stay dry as wet maggots can climb out of anything and you will find them all over the fridge!

smokinggun
bit late to comment but as we have always had pet rodents when i lived with my parents we always had sawdust or wood shavings knocking about so my dad always puts a handful of sawdust or wood shavings in the bait box and it dries them up and keeps them fresher for much longer, also takes away alot of the smell Edited August 26, 2012 by smokinggun
Richard.Hosgood
Too much maize can make them sweat, always found the best way to keep them was in sawdust, lid off (they can't get out!!) and then sieve out the sawdust and add a bit of maize flour the morning of use - maggots should keep for up to a week in the fridge if chilled right down. lumpy
Ask your tackle shop how long he's had them in storage (they may already be a few days old).
-Mongrel-
Make sure the container is not air tight, I lost 4 pints that way. :(

oilyrag
Bang them in the freezer. I did it once to kill some off for fishing over a stoney lake bed. Got them out a few days later and by the time I had driven there the blighters had come back round.
colin lad
they will keep in a fridge in sawdust with the lid off for 3-4 weeks we use to take fresh maggots and older ones fishing. the older ones were good for certain things one thing they were used for was for the feeder as they move a lot slower the feeder will empty slower keeping a steady trickle of loose feed also the older maggots had tougher skins which seem to fish better in the winter colin
