Big Marty
My Father has been on the hunt for a small van and as I drive a BERLINGO 2.0 HDI and have had no real problems with it he thought he would look something simlar. We have been looking and priceing around and I have a mate that deals in vans that is keeping an eye out..The thing is the price difference between a 2.0 and a 1.6 HDI,is a lot more than I could have thought it would be and when I asked about Iam told that there is a problem with the Turbo on the 1.6 HDI..Iam just wondering if you could buy one at a good price is it something that you could put right at still have a cheap van ??? Thank for now... MARTY ... :good:

Muggins.
It`s either the Berlingo or the Ppeugot Partner that my parents have. They`ve had no problems with theirs.
Yoggy
Marty, I have the 1.6 HDI, and its been absolutely faultless. Without a doubt the best van I`ve owned. Fuel economy is right up there with the best. I`m averaging around 54mpg,and with todays fuel prices its a no brainer. I used to have 4x4`s but switched over simply because of running costs. To be fair, I can go most places with the van I could with the 4x4`s. Apart from extremely muddy fields...its just about common sense really. The ground clearance on the Berlingo is the best of all vans I looked at so thats an added bonus as well. Parts are cheap, and insurance costs are low. The 1.6 is quick off the mark as well. Stick with the Berlingo.

daz2202
My 56plate 1600 hdi blew to bits at 48k miles and was regular serviced. Very common for turbos to let go and send oil everywhere. Something to do with the banjo bolts and a badly designed sump as you cannot drain all old oil out without removing sump. Sold it on evil bay as spares for £900. Broke my heart
jef
I went for a 2.0Hdi top spec car when I was last looking for a van. Mates sometimes take the **** but I'd have another one tomorrow. Unlike the above posts, I've spent a small fortune on it but it gets a hard life and I can feed all three of my pheasant pens in it. I've never missed a day at work during the snow either, fitted a pair of dirty snow tyres to the front and it will go near anywhere! Then at the end of the day, decent valet, seats back in and away for weekends camping in it. Five adults, two dogs, canoe...................... It's at 120,000 and in the last year has had rear axle, shocks, bearings, abs sensors, handbrake cables to the tune of £1100. Then a couple of months later a new steering rack. Last week it had crank pulley, flew through MOT (thank god), advisory on front wheel bearing. The rear axle should have written it off but I was in too deep at the time, hence the rack as well. The car should give me a few more 1000 miles fingers crossed. I'll post tonight if it breaks down on the way to work this morning after that comment. JF I have an 08 Berlingo van and would be interested to know exactly what it could do with a pair of the right tyres. I bought a Jimny a couple of months ago too and to be honest that never seems to need to come out of 2WD, I suppose though when it does and you haven't got the option of 4WD you are basically in the ****
jef
How do I explain? I've never been caught out in the snow, yet. Times I can't get the wife's car off the drive (with winter tyres) yet no bother with the Bingo. On a wet shoot day last year I took the car rather than the quad and managed all eight drives along with the trucks. There was only one gate I couldn't get through, but I never got stuck. I absolutely love it but the hard life has probably cost me that bit extra. JF p.s. If I can justify it, my next vehicle will be a Transporter. If can't justify it which is most likely the case, I'll be getting another Bingo. Edited September 12, 2012 by jef
Tim Kelly
I ran an ex post office 1.9 partner for a few years and it was great. Now have 4 years on a 2.0 HDI dispatch that I'm very pleased with. The 2.0 in the berlingo/partner would be awesome as the 1.9 was definitely a bit gutless.
