Inland steel shot

Recommended Posts

you would you have to let them pass on by, in england and wales you have to you non toxic shot for all wildfowl , even on estates where your shooting partridge etc you have to have non toxic for the ducks if there is any, but in scotland you can use lead inland over decoys , does this clear things up?

What is the need for steel shot for inland fowl? If when on your permission the chance arose for a duck or goose inland and you weren't loaded with steel, would you take the shot or let them pass on by?

I'd let them pass, the law is the law and you never know who is watching.

yup,

if i recolect, there was a chap who was fined for shooting wildfowl with lead.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-13408867

the fine was £100.

with the new expensive & better nontoxics about, it actually is cheaper to get fined for using lead shot every outing.

silly eh.

think some of the new niceshot / nontoxics chime in at £60 for a standard 32g load (x25).

i`m far from encouraging lead to be used on waterfowl, but when the alternates are more expensive than being fined. so much for an "economical replacement"

you can apply that to car tax though cookoff, fundamentally its illegal we don't do it and beware online of people asking the question. Just look at the lead shot argument and the research done by BASC where there has been a major own goal by some shooters claiming not to bother with non toxic

Any gun that is nitro proof tested can shoot standard steel loads up to 32g in weight, provided the choke is no tighter than half and the shot size is no.4 or smaller.

Some manufactureres (gamebore included) have developed smaller size steel shot that is suitable for any choke. This is mainly the clay loads though, which are unsuitable for live quary.

Steel is classed as high performance if the shot size is no.3 or larger. A gun must be proof tested to 1370bar to safely use HP steel cartridges.

There is some good info re: steel shot on BASC's website :good:

Factory bismuth are plastic wad, unless you load your own. As mentioned above, gamebore have a non toxic cartridge with a fiber shot cup.

are they realy? thats daft as most game shoots want fibre now do they not? its soft enough so why on earth load them in plastic shot cups :hmm:

Provided the chambers are 23/4" (70mm) or more - this purely because no shorter cartridges are made.

yeah, although i`m a good boy and reload nontoxic.

i`ve even been in shops where customer asked for goose cartridges, and got handed lead #2s. i pointed out that it is illegal.

only to be told to "F-0ff you ****".

but what do i know?

Indeed try buying non toxic for ducks round here its far from easy and very limited choice,

so very very true.

i once tried to buy some nontoxic 12gauge loads. i was told the minimum order i had to put in was for 5000 rounds. there is no way i could afford that !

bought a reloader instead.
