There's Franchi and there's Franchi. The older ones are very good. I've got a 30+ year old Franchi Falconet which has been 'breathed on' by two very well known people in the gun trade, and I've been offered silly money for it.

To be honest if you're just after a gun for clays try the 525 and the SP1, both feel quite different, choose the one that suits you best.

Resale value would concern me. If it was an older, cheapish model, it might be worth it - less than £600. If it was the same money as the other two you mention - walk away. The other two are far better.

I owned a Franchi Barrage trap some years ago - not the best ever.

£1200 would get you a good condition used B525 B425 B325, cynergy, 686, MK38, lots and lots of choice an auto would be possible choice infact for £1200 you could get an decent OU and a servicable auto say £900 on the OU and £300 on the semi (beretta 301, Franchi hunter, Remmy 1100 or a hatsan)

Semi http://www.guntrader.co.uk/Guns-For-Sale/Remington_Shotgun_1100-Field_For-Sale_120528133327001

Just random examples "beware the man with one gun" and make sure it fits reasonably.

I've reserved a franchi harrier sporting, 28", new for £695. The same dealer had a Miroku Mk38 new (but no warranty)for £850. I was toying over which one but decided to stick with the one with the warranty cause of being new and unfamiliar with maintenance of shotguns.

Time will tell if I've made the right choice!

what do i have to look out for when buying second hand shotguns, i know about pitting, what about firing pins etc?

also was browsing sportsman gun centre website last night and i like look of fausti windsor, has anybody got one or used one?what do you all think it £945 new worth it?

Fausti are okay, but resale values are the pits. Stick with Beretta, Browning and Miroku. All have had chrome lined barrels for over 12 years, so pitting should not be a feature. For your sort of money, you can get one which has fired less than a 1000 shells.
